Before Richard Digance, the show was hosted by Jim Causley (who made a much better job of it, IMO). His farewell message on web said,
"There were several issues that contributed to my decision to leave the show, not all of which i shall discuss here but to be as politely vague as possible; uncompromising situations made it impossible for me to do otherwise. I was hugely saddened to leave BBC Radio Devon as making a folk radio show focussing on traditional Devonshire music has long been a dream of mine."
So we really have little to go on as to why both presenters have left and (more importantly) why there is no replacement for the folk show.

Marje

It must be something that Radio Devon is good at suddenly getting rid of presenters and axing shows as if they never existed. Although I did not listen to all of Folk Aid I did not hear his name even mentioned, which I thought at the time was rather odd. I seen to remember when Graham Danton was axed without a goodbye nothing was said at the time. David Lowe lost his Saturday evening show I never heard why and going back a few years John Le Fish had a very good Folk show on Radio Devon & Cornwall that again was axed all of a sudden because it was said to be of minority interest only and therefore had to go. Good old Radio Devon please carry on not asking what the listeners want to hear. Mind you, you have been doing this for years and dumbing down other shows as though we were all idiots. Anyway thanks Richard for a great show for as long as it lasted and I hope to see Devon Folk back maybe someday.

I got the feeling the BBC weren't wholly to blame.

Thanks for that. I think that has cleared it up.

As for finding a presenter The esteemed Lizzie Cornish is always telling people who tp put on radio. I would have thought it would be ideal for her to show us what we are made of.

Once again I extend the hand of friendship to give her some ideas on how to go about it.

Dave, I had seen posted somewhere that it was Richard's decision to leave the show for now to concentrate on other stuff, and the suggestion was made that he might well return to it later. Unfortunately I can't recall where I saw that (possibly on the thread on Facebook regarding Folkwaves?) All of which, of course, is totally third hand.

There was a statement on the website saying that the show was finishing, and that Digance was concentrating on his gigs now, but I can't even see that message now.
There has been some discussion about this in the "Devon Folk" thread. I am sorry to see the show axed, but would prefer another presenter anyway. I don't know whether or how BBC Devon have tried to find a replacement for him. Can it be that difficult?
To replace the folk show with a "vintage top 40 show" is pointless - we can get that sort of thing on Radio 2 all the time.

Does anyone actually know what has happened here? I have tried telephoning Richard, he was out and has not rung back. Radio Devon could not answer - also promised to call back, never did.

The programme is no longer in the schedule.
