The list of artists is impressive and contains a good broad cross-section of music. Kettering has for too long been a folk-desert and it's a shame this event has only just come to our attention...
But the info available on the above links seems quite scant to say the least. Is the whole event "ticketed concert format" or are there any singarounds or sessions?
It would be good to find an email contact for further enquiries - can the organisers provide please?

I believe its the inaugural FF at the centre, so I guess that the organisers are at the start of a steep learning curve. It would be nice to see it well-supported - Great Oaks From Little Acorns Grow!

AFAIK, it's 'ticketed concert', but musicians are musicians and singers are singers, and any excuse for a session or singaround will do, so who knows.......??

FWIW, I'm not connected to the Festival except as a performer.

The KAC Homepage - includes a 'contacts' tab

(new here, not sure I've made the link work properly...sorry!)

NB - I'm not connected with the fest either, 'cept as a performer.

Millfloss - did you use the linkmaker below the 'Reply to Thread' box?
If you use that, you can make working links that way.

Just paste the URL into the 'Ling URL' box (the top box), then you can type anything you like in the 'Link Text (Otional' box below, and it will appear in the post.
Click the 'Create Link' button and then copy and paste the whole character-string into the 'Reply to Thread' box. You can test the link by clicking the appropriate button before you paste the string into your reply.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your interest in this, as Backwoodsman has said, fledgeling folk festival.

We've posted a number of updates on our main homepage
Kettering Arts Centre home page

If you follow links at the top of that page through the drop down menu on the "music" tab you can see the pages for Harry Bird, Megson and the Festival.

We are on a steep learning curve both in terms of this festival and as an Arts Centre generally, but our approach is to try to make something happen. So far we've had 14 events in our first year and thousands of people have enjoyed some really good events with some nationally and internationally known names. The folk festival marks our first birthday.

We went with some friends to the last Spratton Festival, were disappointed when it didn't happen last year, and when we secured Megson for a concert thought "Why not make a weekend of it?"

We were delighted that Potbelly Brewery came on board to support us on the bar side of things, we've got a decent sound system and other facilities, and a town centre location which provides good access, parking, and food options.

Even more importantly we've got a really good lineup. I'm guessing most people won't be familiar with our Saturday headliners Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies, but they are amazingly engaging and just play with such a hugely likeable joy- i think everyone will love them!

And many of the key bands and solo artists from the Northants/Rutland/Lincs scene are supporting us, too.

On limited (ie next to none) resources, with a good team of volunteers we've put on some great events so far. Literally thousands of flyers have gone out, most of them targeted or given personally (eg at our other events), our website is getting 60ish hits a day, we've got a decent sized facebook group (and the bands have been doing their bit, particularly on facebook, too), and a 200 strong email list of people who've attended other events and given us their emails.

But we still meet people who don't know about our efforts to bring affordable culture to Kettering (with no grants...) That's really important to us, so we've priced this as low as we can to make it accessible to all (not least thanks to the many bands who have been generous to us in their demands).

OAP's, Unemployed, Students, Under 18's can enjoy a day of great music for only £5.50, or both days for only £8.50. Full price tickets are £11 for a day or £17 for the weekend. A choice of four of Potbelly's renowned Ales can be enjoyed for only £2.50 a pint.

So now it really is a case of asking you all to come along and support it and help us with word of mouth/persuasion!

Excellent first post, KAC!

Looking forward to playing there Saturday, but other musical commitments prevent me from attending on Sunday as a 'Bum On A Seat' (my friends say I'm a Bum!).

Seriously hoping that it won't just be me and Millfloss keeping each other company!

From KAC above: 'We went with some friends to the last Spratton Festival, were disappointed when it didn't happen last year'

For anyone else that was dissapointed, new festival organised by the former Spratton committee, Merry Tom Folk Festival Brixworth Park, Northampton, 8th & 9th July.

Interesting looking line up, Including Little Johnny England and The Bounty Hounds, both of whom are festival hopping that weekend, doing Ely as well.

John

I've signed up, ready for the PM's to ping in.

Looking forward to Merry Tom, John, we'll be there! We sent an email through the old Spratton website after the sad announcement last year thanking everyone for their hard work and wishing well for the future- glad you've re-grouped for this year and hope the new chapter is even better for you all.

Thanks Millfloss - went very well.

The KAC is a lovely church, and very well set up as a concert venue. There's a bar in the church where the performances take place, and a hall at the back where they're serving tea/coffee and some food. I suggested that it would be a very attractive room for sessioneers, and that might be worth pursuing next year.

The organisers are extremely nice people and I'm sure you'll enjoy your day at KAC - have a good 'un!

To St. Katherine and his team - thanks for a very nice day, it was a very good 'first shot', and should become a fine Festival in the years to come. Thanks again and best wishes.

Was indeed a fine Saturday and hope that the Sunday is going well.
My bandmate BWM is involved with the Lincolnshire Folk event in Spalding today, while I've been busy in "removal" work while my daughter changes rentals. Moral: Never Own A Van!
