Subject: RE: Obit: Malcolm Davies Rest In Peace (26 Feb 2011) From: Andy Jackson Date: 03 Mar 11 - 07:42 PM Terribly sad news. Malcolm was a lovely man with a fine voice. Devoted to his work as much as his music, he never quite made a Miskin booking, but he will be remembered by me as an "Absent Friend". My thoughts are with the family, you will aome day be able to remember the good times, without too much sadness. Andy |

Subject: RE: Obit: Malcolm Davies Rest In Peace (26 Feb 2011) From: Mick Tems Date: 03 Mar 11 - 10:30 AM Hi, Tom and Chris: I heard this sad news only last night, when Olly and I arrived at Llantrisant Folk Club. Malcolm was one in a million: I loved to hear his gruff, earthy, passionate, strong and strikingly original voice and his massive repertoire. A Llantrisant Folk Club member who worked in the catering trade, he soaked up songs like a sponge. His love of Rudyard Kipling will remain with me always; I watched open-mouthed while he delivered On The Road To Mandalay so perfectly. Ned Clamp and Pat Smith have put this piece in the Llantrisant Folk Club website: "Malcolm Davies, or "Malcolm over by there" as he was known at Llantrisant Folk Club, died of a severe heart attack on Saturday, February 26 2011. He will now be known as "Malcolm up by there" and will be sadly missed by all its members. "His funeral will take place on Monday, March 14 at Wenallt Chapel, Thornhill Crematorium, Cardiff at 1.15pm, afterwards at the Church House Inn, Bedwas. Please bring instruments and voices to celebrate his life. His wife Chris has requested for no black to be worn, but feel free to wear coloured - also only family flowers. Donations can be made to a music charity via Paul Sartin." Mick Tems, Life President, Llantrisant FC |

Subject: Obit: Malcolm Davies (Llantrisant FC) From: Splott Man Date: 03 Mar 11 - 04:13 AM It's my sad duty to report the loss off Malcolm "over by there" Davies to a heart attack last Saturday, 26 February. Malcolm was a regular at Llantrisant and Newport Folk Clubs. He will be remembered for his powerful voice and his committed delivery of well chosen songs. He was called Malcolm Over By There when he first came to Llantrisant because we already had a Malcolm Over Yer. Someone suggested last night that he should now be regarded as Malcolm Up There. His funeral will take place on Monday 14 March at Wenallt Chapel, Thornhill, Cardiff at 1.15pm. Afterwards at Church House Inn, Bedwas, nr Caerphilly. Please bring instruments and voices to celebrate his life. His wife Chris has requested for no black to be worn, but feel free to wear colours. Also only family flowers. Donations can be made to a music charity via Paul Sartin. Splott Man |
Subject: RE: Obit: Malcolm Davies Rest In Peace (26 Feb 2011) From: GUEST,Kathy Miller Date: 02 Mar 11 - 05:47 PM I heard this news yesterday from your mother and am so grieved for your loss (and feeling it deeply on a personal level). Your dad wrote to me about soapmaking in May of 2009 and it led to a delightful email correspondence on and off since then ... getting to meet your parents while I was on a garden tour in the U.K., Fall of 2009. I spent several hours chatting with them and exchanged soaps with your dad before we parted. He also brought a container of Welsh cakes he'd baked for the occasion. He was such an intelligent and engaging person. I loved his passion for learning, love of history, political rants... all of it. His emails were a high point of the day and I always learned something from him. I believe you are the eldest son and he spoke of you while we were at dinner... how talented and bright you are. (I'm sure he was proud of all of his children, but I remember that specific about you.) Know that he will be missed on this side of the Atlantic as well as your own. He was a good man and you were blessed to have him as your father. Kathy Miller Silverdale, WA U.S.A. |

Subject: Obit: Malcolm Davies Rest In Peace From: GUEST,Tom son of Malcolm Date: 27 Feb 11 - 06:01 PM Hello to any of you on this forum that knew of my father Malcolm Davies. Sadly I bring grim tidings when I tell you that he died yesterday, being February 26th 2011, at a little after one in the afternoon. Known to some as Pigtail, to others as Malcy Mewn, but to many just Malc, he was a lover of folk music and a passionate rugby fan as any who knew him personally will attest. Our world is a smaller place now that he is gone, he was a generous, big-hearted man who touched the lives of all who knew him. In the end it was his big heart that gave out on him, but he will always be in the hearts of his family and friends. We miss you Dad.
