Subject: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 28 Feb 11 - 05:14 AM Planning and ticket sales are well under way for this year's festival which will run from 19th - 21st August. See website for details of lineup etc. There will be two ceilidhs, concerts in the marquee and on the Hermitage FM stage (Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon), song sessions, pub sessions, workshops, dance sides, a story walk, lots of activities for children, and probably lots of things I have forgotten. Early bird tickets are available until 31st May at last year's prices which is great value for money so don't miss out by leaving it too late. Day tickets are available and camping can be booked for weekend ticket holders. Moira Furnace Folk Festival In addition to the fundraising events listed on the website 'What's the Point?'(and possibly invited guests) will be playing for a St Patrick's celebration at the New Inn at Pegg's Green, Coleorton, Leics. at lunchtime on Sunday 20th March in aid of the festival, so if you are in the area please feel free to come along and buy a great pint of Guinness (or whatever takes your fancy)and drop your loose change into the collecting boxes. This will be an unamplified gig as the pub is very small and we are going to be shoehorned into one corner of the bar. This won't be an open session as the monthly Monday night session will be running as usual on the preceding Monday (14th March). Olga |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: VirginiaTam Date: 28 Feb 11 - 05:25 AM pout sniffle... I don't think we can make it this year. Pity because this is a wonderful little festival. So much packed into a small space and short time. Excellent quality artists too. Man... I am getting depressed thinking about not being able to attend. |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 01 Mar 11 - 09:26 AM Just received the fliers for 'The Folk Thing' at Ashby Folville in April. You can buy tickets for BOTH the Folk Thing and Moira Furnace Folk Festival for less than half the price of many other festivals and they are both small and friendly festivals and far enough apart in the calendar not to interfere with each other. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: Sooz Date: 01 Mar 11 - 10:35 AM We'll be at Moira in August - kazoos at the ready! |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 07 Mar 11 - 08:50 AM Workshops planned at the moment include harmony singing(2), accompanied singing, music hall song swap, beginners melodeon, guitar to accompany singing, song writing (2),kazoo making(aimed at children) and story telling techniques. We have also got a tai chi session first thing in the morning (Saturday and Sunday)to prepare you for the day, and a story walk around the woodland on Saturday morning, so there is plenty to do before the music starts! |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 11 Mar 11 - 04:20 AM Perhaps someone can help us out. We are looking for a couple more dance sides for MFFF so that we can provide a full and varied programme. If you dance with a side that is available for the weekend 19th - 21st August and would like to dance at this pleasant little festival please let me know your contact details (PM if you prefer)and I will pass them on. Any style of dance would be appreciated. Thanks Olga |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 19 Mar 11 - 10:25 AM Don't forget if you are in the North West Leicestershire area tomorrow lunchtime our band is doing a belated St Patrick's celebration at the New Inn, Pegg's Green in aid of festival funds. Come and join in with some well known chorus songs (popular in Ireland if not actually Irish), listen to some moving Irish ballads and tap your feet to some lively jigs and reels. All this in addition to a great pint of Guinness and a friendly atmosphere. |

Just a reminder as for us and hopefully for you the Festival season starts next week!! Have a good spring and summer and hope to see you all in August. |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: My guru always said Date: 28 Apr 11 - 03:30 AM Will be sorting tickets & cheque after the weekend, trying to catch the early bird offer!! I am SOOOOO looking forward to this! Will there be a 'late night' camping area this year, I wonder? |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 28 Apr 11 - 05:38 AM There was talk of having a quiet family area, then someone asked for a dog free area, so it might be difficult to accommodate everyone as some people with dogs will want a quiet pitch (not all dogs are noisy). If we set up a quiet area I would assume anyone on the rest of the site is happy with a bit of late noise but I think we need to respect everyone on site and quieten down if we are asked. I will bring this up at the next meeting, if it is possible we will set up different areas but it might turn out to be a logistical nightmare. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: My guru always said Date: 28 Apr 11 - 06:15 AM Glad you'll be thinking about it! I do hate stopping teenagers from enjoying their beauty sleep.... |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: Richard Atkins Date: 03 May 11 - 09:36 PM Be quiet after 2.00 AM its a Festival. Extra sleeping late for myself and the dogs then :>)) |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 06 May 11 - 09:09 AM As discussed at the last meeting there will be a quiet area for people who specifically ask for 'no noise/no noisy dogs' camping but we would rather you didn't make a lot of noise into the early hours on the main camping field either as the rest of us do need some sleep (especially if we've got to get up early to make sure everything is running smoothly next day!). We won't be imposing rules or asking for complete silence as we too like a drink or two after all the organised entertainment is over, especially if we have been playing, but we would appreciate a little bit of consideration for everyone else on site as we (the committee) will have to deal with any complaints received about excessive noise. Hope that doesn't sound too much like a lecture, its common sense really! Don't forget you've only got 'til the end of the month to get your tickets at last year's prices. Will be experimenting with a different flavour for the shortbread this year. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 22 May 11 - 09:09 AM Don't forget you've only got 10 days to get your tickets at last year's prices! |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 26 May 11 - 12:21 PM Still time to get your tickets before the price goes up! |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 07 Jun 11 - 08:00 AM Too late for dicounted tickets now but still excellent value for money. See website for details. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 pub sessions From: OlgaJ Date: 20 Jun 11 - 10:23 AM If anyone coming to the Festival would like to run a pub session can you PM me with your real name and whether you would prefer evening or afternoon sessions and the type of session you would like to run (song/music/mixed)This will give us the opportunity to make sure everyone is catered for most of the time. We appreciate that once a session is under way it tends to look after itself but it is nice to have someone there to steer it! At the moment we only have three sessions with possible leaders (Friday at the Railway, Saturday evening at the Woodman and Sunday lunchtime at the Woodman - all mixed sessions)so there are plenty of spaces available. Many thanks Olga |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: Mrs Scarecrow Date: 20 Jun 11 - 02:06 PM Are you offering free tickets or any other inducements to people who run sessions, not that I am asking personally as I already have tickets |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 20 Jun 11 - 02:50 PM |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 20 Jun 11 - 03:19 PM I'll ask the question at our next meeting but the people who have volunteered so far are already performing or stewarding over the weekend and therefore getting concessions already. Its difficult to know where to draw the line as far as free tickets/camping is concerned as obviously we still have to pay for the camping pitches from our income and as a committee we would really like to be able to keep the cost down next year. However, I can appreciate that volunteers should be rewarded in some way so I will ask the question and see what we can come up with. I'm in the process of moving from Derby to York at the moment so communications with the organizers might not be as frequent as they have been but I will post something on this in the next few weeks when I have spoken to them. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: Wheatman Date: 21 Jun 11 - 03:21 AM I don't think my previous post worked so if this goes twice apologies. We are a coming to the festival this year for the first time with Bella (our caravan) an have been told by previous attendees that bottled water should be consumed either transported there (dangerous, weight problems) or purchased locally. What is the situation regarding fresh water supply on site? Gan Canny Brian |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: John J Date: 21 Jun 11 - 03:39 AM There's a water tap on the site, no need to worry! John |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 21 Jun 11 - 06:01 AM Last post seems to have got lost somewhere. JohnJ: I have replied to your PM but let me know if that has got lost too. Wheatman: There is a good drinking water supply on site but you might like to bring a bottle or two for initial use as last year there was a delay in getting the pipe run and people were arriving before it was ready. It should be OK this year as we are planning to run the pipe on the Thursday. No need to load yourself down with bottled water. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: Wheatman Date: 22 Jun 11 - 04:14 AM Thanks OlgaJ |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 12 Jul 11 - 04:51 PM Festival t-shirts and sweatshirts are now available to order from the MFFF website. Orders received before 14th August are guaranteed to be delivered in time to pick up at the Festival. Various colours and sizes, some with dates, some with artists names, and some with just the logo so there is plenty to choose from. We have got session leaders for the evenings in both pubs and Sunday lunchtime in the Woodman so it looks like the other afternoon sessions will be a 'do-it-yourself' arrangement. If you feel like having a play or a song just turn up and hopefully other people will join you. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 17 Jul 11 - 05:09 AM Only 5 weeks to go! Tickets still available. See website for details. www.moirafurnacefolkfestival.co.uk |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: My guru always said Date: 17 Jul 11 - 07:12 AM Oh, I am SO looking forward to this! Did we decide where & when the MudGather would be? Had a go at making Million dollar shortbread but it was nowhere near as good as the one brought last year so I won't try again *grin* Was that yours Olga? |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 17 Jul 11 - 08:13 AM Guilty as charged. Not sure if I will be making any this year as I've only got a couple of days between coming back from holiday and moving house during the week leading up to the festival. The shortbread keeps for weeks so I might do a batch before I go away. I'm pretty sure the Mudgather is going to be in the Railway as there is a big gap in the loft programme on Saturday afternoon but I will check with Lynne. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 20 Jul 11 - 05:10 PM Apparently the Mudgather will be upstairs in the Railway from 2.00pm on Saturday. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: Cats Date: 21 Jul 11 - 02:16 PM then you can all come on the walk through the woods with the green man |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: GUEST,Seaking Date: 21 Jul 11 - 03:28 PM My first spot is scheduled for 3.30 on Saturday so will have to miss the Gather :-( Will just have to make up for it later on :-) |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: OlgaJ Date: 21 Jul 11 - 04:13 PM Lots of interest in the story walk (11.00 Saturday)from what I can gather. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2011 From: My guru always said Date: 22 Jul 11 - 03:57 AM Mudgather at 2pm, eh? Such a shame it clashes with Chris but hope that other Catters will drop by! Don't worry about the shortcake Olga (busy Girlie), it was a special treat last year and much appreciated. Am certain that there will be plenty of chocolate brought to the Gather in a variety of forms as usual..... |
