As a longtime fan of Oysters and June Tabor I'm really looking forward to this. Oysters were brilliant at Moonbeams Festival - John Jones and Chopper got off the stage and danced in the audience and then after a long and energetic set, John turned up at the late night singaround. Great band - great people.

Oysterband have hinted that a track from Ragged Kingdom may appear sometime soon on their widget (go to their home page http://www.oysterband.co.uk/ and scroll down a bit). The widget is designed so that if you want to recommend the band you can share it by email or by posting it on a website, blog, social networking site etc. It's quite a neat device - even better if an RK track turns up on it!

Yes Lizzie,If there were such a thing as a hit single in the realm of folk-rock then I'd put "Bonny....." at the top of the list.Spontaneous,galloping,visceral and vital!What a great song.This cd is marinated in potential folk stardom.One of the best cds of 2011.Also,check out Martin Simpson's new release "Purpose And Grace".It's another big winner.

I wonder about the origin of "Judas Was a Red-headed Man". The Ragged Kingdom notes say "A Spring carol from Somerset collected by Ruth L. Tongue in 1916". But the British Library entry for this song says that it was collected by Bob Patten from the singing of Ruth Tongue in 1971, and that Ruth Tongue was born in 1898.

I don't know anything about Ruth Tongue. Did she collect folk songs in her teenage years?

I have to say it grew on me and now has me in its thrall. I do not necessarily agree with Colin Irwin's fRoots suggestion that it is better even than Freedom and Rain but it is, in my view, a mightily good album all the same.

Did anyone go to their gig at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London last night? Many did dressed in their best folky outfits, with long grey hair in abundance!!

We prefered to see Quimantu in the Purcell Room next door.
