http://funwithfolk.com/ -- this is a cool resource for kids (and parents and teachers) from EFDSS.

From the "About" page --

Fun with Folk is:

    * An online songbook of English Folk Songs and Singing Games
    * Designed for children 7 ? 11 yrs
    * For children to use at home
    * A classroom resource for teachers

Fun with Folk is operated by the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) as an on-line educational resource. It is part of the EFDSS Education Programme.
...
Fun with Folk has been developed as part of Take 6, a project to make the folk archives of the English Folk Dance and Song Society more easily accessible to the public. Six important folk song collections are now available on-line, for anyone to research.

This project has been funded through a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

---

I'm a bit surprised it hasn't shown up here yet... I came on it the other day via the EFDSS site, and then again today in the program of the MusicLearningLive!2011 UK National Music Education Conference, for which EFDSS is a major supporter and participant.

Great work, EFDSS.

I can't really find anything comparable for American songs. There are plenty of sites with lists of songs and mp3's, of course. Most stuff is directed at teachers or parents, not the kids themselves.

It is true that even this site is not coming up on Google yet, but maybe this thread will help.

I think the EFDSS site is really well-constructed. How about you?

I'm dropping a line to CDSS... :-)

Lots of good stuff there. Unusal versions of songs. With a tie-in to the National Curriculum which for Junior pupils includes The Victorians. Activities to tie in with various areas of the curriculum (which you need to spell out nowadays, as there is so much pressure on teachers).
It's a shame you can't just say 'teach them something you are interested in and they'll learn to enjoy learning' any more.

Looks OK but it duplicates some of the stuff available from "Sing-up" which is a shame.

The difference from Sing Up is that this is actually meant for kids themselves to use, and the folk emphasis.

Sing Up looks useful; some overlap would be natural, I would think.
