Did anyone else see the PBS American Masters progam last night (or this week) with the new documentary "Troubadours"? From the local listing I originally thought it was going to be something I'd seen, and didn't turn it on right away, but once it was on I was glued to the set. There should be a repeat on the secondary PBS station later in the week.

It was marvelous! I hadn't heard of Eddie Schmidt until he turned up on twitter this morning, but this is his documentary, and a damned fine one it is. Of course, this is the music I was listening to on my radio in my room, while my parents had something else on in the rest of the house. First LP I bought myself as a kid was Carole King's "Tapestry." :)

The early years of Carole King and James Taylor create the framework of the singer/songwriter popular music that the program is developed around, but it takes a close look at the Troubadours club in LA and the Laurel Canyon domain of a lot of the folk singers of the 60s and 70s. I know I'm not doing it justice here, I will have to watch it completely through to attempt that, but I will, with pleasure.

Lots of interviews with performers and promoters inform the story he's telling. I do hope some of the rest of you saw this program.

We did and were equally captivated. It was so beautiful to see the ease in which Carol King and James Taylor "fit" together while singing and interacting. We really enjoyed it.

I heard about this and had to get up at 3 am to see it.
Carole King, James Taylor, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Steve Martin, Kris Kristoferson, and many others were great to see and hear again!!
this is available on cd/dvd.

this may be re-broadcast again...check www.pbs.org or your local pbs station for times...i saw it has several shows on DTV on the PBS feed.

I was going to wait for the PBS showing but wasn't watching the schedule. I'll have to see if I can still catch it.

It was rebroadcast last night at 2am, but I didn't watch it, and I don't have a good recording system in place right now. I searched and don't find any replays, but I hope there will be in the near future.
