Glad you were thinking of Shepley - brilliant lineup IMHO and I understand there may also be an added attraction in the form of a bookseller with previously cherished books about folk music for sale.

I mentioned Fylde too. It's the only festival we're actually doing for the first time. Looking forward to it.

I get these Northern names muddled too David - specially Shipley, Skipton, (Both mean Boat Town as it happens) Shepley (Sheep Clearing) etc..

I think Shakespeare's Mr Omlette had a problem too...

"Tebay or Nottingley, Theakston Wetwang.
Wetherby Nottingham in the Minedrum
To Suffield the Sligsby and Harrogate of Out Rawcliffe Forton
Otley Talke Armley against a Seacroft Trull
Anlaby Upperthong Endon..."

Whoops - Sorry Shepley and sorry for all those looking for a festival in Shipley! All these W Yorks towns look alike to me...

The festival is actually in Shepley, which is a bit more rural than Shipley to say the least. Although it doesn't house Salt's Mill...

:D

Has everyone forgotton "Fylde"? Now in its 39th year and the biggest in the North West of England.Sept.3rd/4th/5th/6th. in the West Lancashire Victorian port of Fleetwood. Concerts, singarounds, music sessions, dance [both social & ritual], workshops special events including this year "Kipling/Bellamy" & "The Golden Dream"... 175 years of Fleetwood.

Don't forget St Neots Folk Festival on the weekend of June 10th- 11th-12th.
Anahata ( treewind) and I will be there with a presentation of Cambridge Folk Songs and a concert spot. The festival website seems to have a broken link. Try googling St Neots folk club.

Swinton!

Possibly Shipley.

Both well away from the coast so as to avoid screeching, foul-mouthed birds. I may risk Fylde again - I think the seagulls there are friedlier than those down south...

Sorry pressed the wrong button there. Have no fear Lizzie - if I ever saw you in real life I would run a mile. Cowardice I know but there you are.

Lizzie as far as I am concerned you are as barmy as a box of frogs. I simply wondered if you were prepared to answer the question you asked everyone else to answer. Clearly not.

Some time ago, last year you flounced off Mudcat promising never to return. And not for the first time. Many people breathed a sigh of relief. Those who knew your track record knew you would be back.

Now take a look at the threads you have posted since then. Now count the ones I have contributed to.

You know for a cyberstalker and a pervert who is supposedly following you around - I don't really do a lot of it.

Like I said...........box of frogs.

Yup, I bet you do. Sadly though, I won't be, as I have this strange person who I regard as an Internet Stalker who follows me on messageboards, so I'd not give him one iota of where he might find me at a festival..or anywhere else.

Thanks.

Strictly speaking they are in the East Midlands (Leicestershire) but both Moira Furnace Folk Festival and 'The Folk Thing' at Ashby Folville although not free are very good value for money. Both have camping at a reasonable cost. Details available on websites.

Frittenden Folk Weekend (end of this month)

Would like to get to Bradfield Traditional Music Weekend (NB Will Fly, please note that Mark always makes it quite clear that this is not a festival!), but will need to find some accommodation and means of getting from A to B if I am going to go

And the Traditional Music Day at Stowmarket in September, if possible, but this may depend on hospitalisation or not depending on the waiting lists under the NHS!

With my own sole lonesome self: Sark Folk Festival (part of Channel Islands Tour)
And no, this doesn't mean I'm back on the road, just keeping the bike upright, as always intended.

Will probably call in to a few for fun as well, Whitby, Otley, Wath, Wombwell, Holmfirth... others if I'm in the vicinity.

Whilst not a folk festival as such, Lymm Folk Club run a series of extra events during Lymm Village Festival, which this year starts on Thursday June 23rd and runs for ten days.

I'll be putting the events list up around Easter time, but a useful download for the club generally is an RTF list that is updated weekly.

Over the weekend of 25th/26th June we're running an Open Mic session, songwriting competition (5th year running) and concerts with Geoff Higginbottom, The Time Bandits and Pete Coe (who is also a judge for the competition).

Other guests over the festival period include Stanley Accrington, the club residents in concert, Peter and Barbara Snape and a surprise concert yet to be announced.

Unlike a 'conventional' folk festival, we won't be having events running concurrently, workshops or 'meet the artiste' sessions. For this reason we only sell tickets 'per concert' (there is no 'Season Ticket') - but tickets are cheaper if booked in advance, which applies to any guest night over the whole year.

Ticket booking forms can be downloaded from our website - if the form you need isn't yet available, you can either check back nearer the time, or contact me by telephone, snail mail, email or PM me here.

Please Note: the email addresses on the site are wrong! To cut down on spam, the '@' is replaced by '_AT_', which needs to be changed before you try to send your message.
