Archie Fisher sang it on the air in 1968 or 69, as demonstrated by this YouTube video. There's a start, anyway.

Yes, certainly the right song, but a rather different version.

Lynne & Paul's version differs from Archie Fisher's, too.

It was titled "Tak the road" on Archie Fisher's LP called "Orfeo" from the late 60's. A beautiful little song. I tried to learn it from the recording but without the right accent, it just doesn't scan.   No more details I'm afraid.

I don't apprehend much difference between the two versions, other than Lynne's lovely strong harmony...but I can't hear it well enough to get much detail. Your memory may be helping you hear.
