Any opportunity to see Mr Ashley is not to be missed, and yes, those early songs are classics but he's never stopped penning equally, by turns hard-hitting and gentle songs.

Greenbird Promotions proudly present Steve Ashley + James Findlay at The Musician in Leicester on Tuesday 15 March.

Steve burst onto the folk-rock scene in 1974 with his seminal debut album, Stroll On, and since then has produced a string of acclaimed work, with his latest, Time and Tide, being described as "a modern day masterpiece" by fRoots and as "well worth the wait" by Robin Denselow in The Guardian. He's also been a member of the Albion Band, worked with most of Fairport Convention and famed arranger Robert Kirby (known for his work on Nick Drake's albums). Not perhaps as well known as many of his contemporaries, he's not a frequent gigger so this is a rare chance to catch a master at work

Support comes from James Findlay, who won the BBC Young Folk Award in 2009 and also delivered a bravura perfromance at last year's Big Session. He's just released his second album, Sport and Play, on Fellside Records and although still shockingly young, is a commanding performer.

Tickets are a mere £8 from the Musician or wegottickets http://www.wegottickets.com/event/100843

Doors are at 8pm with music starting at 8.30pm anmd finishing around 11.
