I am bursting with pride for my little boy Danny (9yrs) and I've just got to tell someone, so forgive me if you read this, but I really don't care, I am so proud.

Some of you may be acquainted with Danny through the video I did some years back now, before we were thrown out of house and home and had to start again in a foreign land (Yorkshire) :-).

Anyway we finally got settled in Castleton and Danny loved his new school, this week he is booked in at the Eskdale Festival of the Arts in Whitby in two solo spots and three school band spots so we are very excited.

Never before had we been involved in anything like this and did not have a clue what it was about until we arrived on Monday with Danny having to play piano in front of an adjudicator and audience as a competitor, (and we thought he was just playing for fun) but he did his pieces and we just couldn't believe it when he was given first place and received a medal and certificate.

Two hours later we had to go back again for him to play his tenor horn
solo (teacher had put him in) and he ended up getting second place in that. (His music teachers son won it)

Tonight we are off again as he is playing in the school Samba Band first and then the school ensemble. Then Friday he is playing again with the Whitby Junior Brass Band.

Our new life is turning out for the best after all, as some of you said it would when we thought it had all come crashing down. It's a bit of a struggle at the moment, but we will make it and probably be a lot stronger for it, although I am beginning to feel my 71 yrs now, but Danny gives me inspiration.

Have just caught up on last year's thread and can see why you are so overjoyed.

It's made my day!

Delighted for you! I was hoping everything would come round right after your move.

Claire (who as you may recall is another geriatric Mudparent)

Thank you for your lovely comments, what a "family" Mudcat is, it's an honour to belong.

We are still floating on air here, last night the school Samba band got a 1st and the Ensemble got a 3rd and Danny has been asked to play piano in the Saturday Night Gala Show which includes the senior big bands, he is over the moon.

And he still has to play with The Whitby Winds Junior Band on Thursday.

What a week!

Wow! I just clicked the blue clicky thing and went back to the original thread and it has made me realise what a hell of a change we have gone through in such a short time.

Danny certainly seems much happier in his new school and has made lots of friends, although he still has his "moments" (as do we all) when he thinks of a couple of special friends he had at the other one, but the worst at the moment is Bob (the dog) whom he still misses terribly having grown up with him from day one, but it is gradually getting better and hopefully he will be able to soon have his own "special" place for Bob and it won't hurt as much.

It's still tough at the moment and sometimes we get a bit "lost", we realise we might not have much, but there are thousands a lot worse off than we are so really we are the lucky ones and have a lot to be thankful for, now I'll shut up and get on getting on.

IT'S A GREAT DAY!
