I do remember Foster Hewitt quite well. I was aware of Scott Young to some extent, but don't remember much about him. The "Hot Stove League"? I missed that somehow. Some others I remember from back then were Pierre Berton and Gordon Sinclair.

Shane doesn't remember much of anthing prior to about 1985, more or less.

Two more Neil Young recordings in the Country-rock mode are "Prarie Wind " and "Harvest Moon".

It was a big loss to Young and many other performers like Emmylou Harris who had worked with Ben Keith. He was staying on Young's "ranch" in the Santa Cruz Mountains when he died of a heart attack last year. They had a new album under way.

"Harvest" had Ben Keith and Kenny Buttery, both gone now.

I saw Neil Young solo, with Bert J as opener, last summer in Reno NV USA. I've seen him several times before and I can attest that he does go through serious transformations in presenting his music. To me the varied style of his concerts is a big part of the attraction. Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, techno Neil, country Neil, rockin' Neil (w/ Crazy Horse), etc. are all engaging. I will confess that this last solo show was the least inspiring time (for me) that I saw him. Perhaps the most interesting to me was the tour he did in 2009 with Ben Keith (RIP) and a great band. Highlight from that superlative show was the "A Day in the Life" encore - chilling.

Neil Young is rightly considered a legend, one of the most important musical figures ever.

$250? Yeah, bit steep, but he's hardly on his own here, most acts at his level have seats going for similarly outrageous prices these days.

I've seen Neil a few times, and each occasion has been a monumental event. Phenomenal performer. At least he gives value for yer $... last time i saw him he did a 90 minute encore.

Well it's a good job we're all different!!
I like James Taylor, I think he uses the guitar cleverly with counter-point bass lines underpinning a melodic picking style.
His voice can be a bit monotonous, I agree, but from a playing point of view he's good.
I can't compare Neil Young with the Eagles!??! What's that about??
Both have had their brilliant moments and both have made me want to stick my head in the oven, but for completely different reasons.
The Eagles could get horribly commercial with mawkish sentimentality , and NY was often so far up his own arse I'm sure he thought the Harvest Moon shone from it!

On topic, $250 for a Neil Young concert? I could have a whole course of treatment at the NYCFTTS and still have change for ear plugs!

Well I love Neil Young, and though I didn't keep up with (or enjoy) all of his musical tributaries, I think the songs he wrote overall are so superlative, I can only admire him and his music.

Jame Taylor however, is another thing, and I totally agree with Spaw that the man is as suffocating as a polyester pillow.

And why can't he pronounce the word "the"? instead of saying thee, as in To Thee I Sing. Pompous, irritating, boring & annoying fellow, who makes Laurence Welk scintillating in comparison; and I had to keep flipping the channel off and on when he was paired with the illustrious Carole King on a PBS special this month.

Neil is on a special release from the NYCFTTS where he just finished a research project to determine whether he is actually playing his Les Paul or fucking it. It is often difficult to determine this based on the noise emanating from the speakers and the gyrations he goes through while playing. Results will be released soon and Neil will be returning to the Center to have the Lionel caboose removed from his ass.

In another piece of research from the James Taylor Catatonic Blandness Rehab Wing of the NYCFTTS, it has been determined that catatonic blandness does not get better with age and in most cases becomes worse.

Sorry I don't see any similarity between the Eagles and Neil Young. I am not making a judgmental opinion of neither but the difference for a start is that I have heard that the odd Eagles track is sometimes used for line-dancing (Country) and I would be hard pressed to find a Neil Young track that could be used in the same way.

Neil Young was bein' right when so many folks were bein' wrong. He's getting on, but ain't we all. And he's still doin' his best to speak about issues of lesser or greater import. I certainly couldn't afford that kinda cash to see a live concert, but I bet it'll be a good and memorable one.

I think Thrasher is probably the best song Neil Young ever did, and he did quite a few really good songs. It's my favorite of his, and I play it often.

Same here.

There are some stunningly good songs on "Old Ways" and "Hawks & Doves", as well as some humor. Also some odd filler stuff, but both are better than "Harvest". So is "Comes a Time" and perhaps "Silver and Gold", but that is just my opinion.

I also believe that "Decade" is all most people need from his early days.

Don't know what just happened to my post. Anyway, I was a big Neil Young fan when he did the "after the Gold Rush" album. Since then I cannot handle the guy. I would not spend .25 cents to go to his concert .. but that is my opinion only. I know he has a big following , just not cup of tea anymore

Now don't be negative... But seriously, I may think Neil is out of line with the ticket prices for this tour, but I would never accuse him of being boring. I think that he is constantly moving forward, trying new sounds, taking chances... Now I don't care for a lot of it myself, but I respect him for what he tries. It's pretty bold to risk an audience at his age, more power to him. But then, I just buy the stuff that sounds like Harvest... (lol) As for the Eagles, well, yeah, gotta agree with you there.

I'm prepared for a hail of fire over this, but am I the only one who finds the whole Neil Young/Eagles thing the most awful boring music! If I hear the monotonous tones of Hotel California one more time round the folk clubs I'll go mad! And no one even tries to do something new with it!

I see that Neil Young is continuing his solo tour this spring with top end seats going for $250.00. I wonder if he'd play one of his "the man is screwing you" songs if the people up front asked? (probably not)

PS- My son and I saw him last time through (to see Bert Jansch really) and it was a good concert. Even from the last row at a measly $90.00 each.
