Subject: Lyr Req: Jesse Fuller's You're No Good From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 14 Mar 11 - 04:09 PM I have this song on record, but I cannot interpret some of Jesse's singing. Song starts: "I got a girl, lives in the neighborhood, She's the kind of woman don't mean nobody no good." Dylan did a version of this song, but Jesse has more words and sometimes different words. All help is appreciated. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jesse Fuller's You're No Good From: GUEST,999 Date: 14 Mar 11 - 04:19 PM These are the lyrics Dylan--the first to record the song in 1962--used for the album he did. Well I don't know why I love you like I do Nobody in the world can get along with you. You got the ways of a devil sleeping in a lion's den I come home last night you wouldn't even let me in. Well sometimes you're as sweet as anybody want to be When you get a crazy notion of jumpin' all over me Well you give me the blues I guess you're satisfied An' you give me the blues I wanna lay down and die. I helped you when you had no shoes on your feet, pretty mama I helped you when you had no food to eat. You're the kind of woman I just don't understand You're takin' all my money and give it to another man. Well you're the kinda woman makes a man lose his brain You're the kinda woman drives a man insane You give me the blues, I guess you're satisfied You give me the blues, I wanna lay down and die Well you give me the blues, I wanna lay down and die |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jesse Fuller's You're No Good From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 15 Mar 11 - 03:26 PM Jesse's title is "Crazy 'bout a woman" as Donovan has it, but Donovan's version is missing some verses. Dylan's version is the first I heard, but it is missing much. I wonder if they couldn't interpret the original either. One of Jesse's verses is: "You wake up in the mornin', You always wake up late. Go down to the corner, Try to get yourself a date." Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: Lyr Add: YOU'RE NO GOOD (Jesse Fuller) From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Mar 11 - 05:54 PM This is at YouTube under the title YOU'RE NO GOOD. However, it seems to me that Fuller meant to announce the title at the beginning. This is my transcription. Notice one gap where I couldn't understand (and the above lyrics didn't help). SPOKEN: Crazy 'bout a woman live in the neighborhood. Well, I'm crazy 'bout a woman, she live in the neighborhood, baby. She the kind o' woman don't mean nobody no good. I'm gonna leave 'er like a farmer when ..., lovin' baby. Nobody in this world can't get along with you. She got ways like the devil sleepin' in the lion's den. Came home last night, she wouldn't let me in. Sometimes she just as pretty anybody wanta be. When she took a dirty notion, she runnin' all over me. I'm getting' mighty tired o' you always doggin' me 'roun'. Way she do make a preacher lay his Bible down. I helped you when you had no shoes on your feet, lovin' baby, When it rain outdoors, you had nothin' to eat. You the kind o' woman I can't understand, lovin' baby. You taken my money, give it to another man. When you wake up in the mornin', always wake up late. Right down to the corner, tryin' to get yourself a date. Well, you give me the blues. I guess you satisfied. I feel so bad that I want to lay down an' die. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: You're No Good (Jesse Fuller) From: GUEST,Slowjohn Date: 07 Jun 19 - 09:03 AM I think the second half of line three is, “when you first met your lovin baby” and the first part is, “going to leave her like a”... The I hear ‘fa na’ which I’ve sung as farmer or fireman, neither of which makes sense. Still looking for help with that word or phrase... |
