Subject: BS: Curmudgeon Sings: Restoration, Part 3 From: Bat Goddess Date: 16 Mar 11 - 06:58 PM Since the other threads have been BS/Non-Music, I'll keep this here even though it is decidedly about music. I announced this on the March Press Room Sea Music Singaround thread, but I don't know how many people will see it there. So, at the prompting of Mudcat friends (those at Facebook have already heard), here 'tis -- Tom sang! Last Friday night at the weekly Press Room session. He's been singing quietly along for the past several months, finding his new voice and its limitations (volume, for one thing -- he needs his personal amplifier, borrowed from Kendall, at The Press Room). Then, Friday when I was singing "The Nurse Pinched the Baby" he surprised me by joining in, loudly enough that not only could I hear him, but the rest of the session could, too. That was fantastic enough, but he later topped it by standing up, putting his foot on the chair and his hand behind his ear and singing "The Bonnie Earl of Moray" -- and brought down the house. Steve Smith got a couple good photographs and they are at Facebook (with the security setting of "Friends of Friends"). CLICK> Tom sees Dr. Zeitels in about a month -- who knows what else Dr. Z may have up his sleeve. And then there's the bio-gel which still needs FDA approval before it can help Tom AND Kendall (and Julie Andrews). Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon Sings: Restoration, Part 3 From: curmudgeon Date: 18 Mar 11 - 11:53 AM A multitude of thanks of the support and good thoughts, but, as I said on the session thread, don't get too excited about my singing. I do not so much carry a tune as I do drag it around in a sack, and it is limited (barely) to a single octave of indeterminate pitch, bereft of tone and volume. Again, thank you all = Tom |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon Sings: Restoration, Part 3 From: MikeL2 Date: 18 Mar 11 - 12:15 PM hi This is great news indeed and a huge step forward especially for the confidence factor. I have been through the same process some years ago and I know how I felt when I was first able to sing again. Like Tom at first I had volume problems and also pitching the songs in new keys but I got there and now I sing all the time. I don't sing in public nowadays only at family and friend's occasions. But that is my choice - and I am happy with that. I will sing an imaginary duet with you tonight Tom. Wonderful news and a great lift for you both. Kind Regards from across the pond. MikeL2 |
