Went to folk club last night and our 'ladies' were raving about the festival in general but particularly Paul & Liz Davenports stint in the Ferens Gallery-they loved it! Well done to everyone involved.

The Maritime Museum is a wonderful venue, many thanks to Ann B, and the staff who were very helpful. I heard from friends that the Ferens Art gallery songs and stories were amazing too. It was a pleasure to be involved and the Fruit venue is another to be used again. Great to keep Hull on the Shanty festival map.
Thanks to Mick and Pete, Les and Maggie and ALL the others involved.

I spent about six hours in the Minerva session on Saturday before returning to Leeds on a train full of Liverpool football supporters (and police).

Very good turnout and good singing (at the pub, not the train) .

I managed to sneak my Tom Waits song into the singaround after which a man that I had never met before came up and shook my hand saying how much he had enjoyed it.

Wish I could have stayed longer

In reply to guest SteveG:

It's not a case of no joined up thinking.

The Keel & Sloop event was planned before our event got under way.

In any case our event is not centred on the Marina this time. Although the Marina did not charge "Sea Fever" any fees (Indeed they gave free berthing to appropriate vessels) the costs of staging an event on the quayside are quite prohibitive. Such costs are realistically not achieveable without much greater levels of sponsorship.

Re camping and accommodation. The town docks around which the festival centres are right in the middle of a large city. There are no schools with field space or suitable open spaces to hold organised camping with facilities.

However for future events we could look at, with the council on board, other possibilities. For instance there is a huge tract of waste land that used to be St Andrew's Dock, which might be used. This would involve campers having a pleasant stroll into town along Riverside Quay passing the ships in Albert & Wm Wright Dock, no further than the walk from Whitby camp site into Whitby.
St Andrew's Quay has several eateries and all the council would need to put up is some security, bogs and mobile washroom.

Hope the festival goes well and that the weather stays fine. I will be there in spirit.

If anyone asks why the Humber Keels aren't there, rather strangely they're holding their own event at South Ferriby Sluice the same weekend. Hmmm. Some joined-up thinking needed here.
