Great bowler and a pleasure to watch all those years ago.

Was it him that lost some toes? Seem to remember it was in the Caribbean somewhere . . .

Wasn't it on the same tour that the immortal line from Brian Johnson was uttered 'The bowler's Holding the batsmans Willey'?

Either way, RIP

correction, and apologies.
His place in the England side was now unchallenged, and he was appointed vice-captain for the Tour of the West Indies in 1967/68, but his run came to a shocking end in Barbados on that same tour. Having acquitted himself reasonably well in the first two Tests against West Indies, Titmus was involved in a horrific accident shortly before the Third when, whilst swimming, he caught his foot in the propellor of a boat. He lost four toes, and for a time there was a doubt whether he would play again, but by May 1968 he was once again wheeling in for Middlesex, and doubts about his fitness were dispelled as he claimed 111 victims that season and actually headed Middlesex's batting averages, though averaging under 26 an innings. However, his England spot had gone, seemingly for good.

Titmus' batting gradually became less effective, and from 1969 onwards he passed fifty only six more times, though he did make an unbeaten 112 against Warwickshire as late as 1976. His bowling, however, remained a force to be reckoned with and until 1976 he took at least 57 first-class wickets in every year

... "he played in the sizties" ...

Actually, I may be wrong here (I usually am), but I believe he played county cricket from 1949 into the 1980's, thus playing in five different decades. Whatever, one of the very best.

Aye, a good 'un, remembered by me from my boyhood days when you could actually watch cricket on telly without paying a fortune for it.

Funny you should say that Steve, it's exactly what I remember.

I used to love it. Even in black and white - not a problem in the Caribbean ;o)

However the WI used to give us a real spanking in those days.

Good Soldier Schweik - I wouldn't have argued either way as it was just memory, and it's REALLY fallible.

Take care all and Fred, you were great to watch. RIP

I guess if you pay for sky and their full package, you are paying about £2 a day for the privelage.

That is not very much, if you have a family of 4 and three of them like films etc and the other (me) loves sport. What can you get for £2 a day anymore?

He was a damned nuisance for England against Australia in 1963-64.

Australia have always had more problems against offies than leggies.
