Call me picky, (some people do) but does not the name accoustic open mike suggest there would be a PA involved, i have been too a few of Andy's nights and they have been excellent, incorporating a wide range of music and performers.

Regards

Wee Jock

Terry

The subject doesn't state the venue

Only the poster does that and you can't see it from the Lyrics and Knowledge page.
Personally I look at a lot of similar threads occasionally and I would be at a thread that alerted me to a location within the limits of my listing cresby.com

If you want people to look at the thread - give them the best chance. IMNSHO "Rochester" is more important (at that level) than "Thursday".

The road to hell is paved with Good Intent. Is it not?

We were booked to perform at Deal in a small venue and having heard the PA chose not to use it. I think this is always an option on open mike nights.

Well said Richard. Only wish the place was nearer. I once thought that "acoustic" meant unplugged. Nowadys, it seems iti s, as long as you aren't plugging in any electric guitars. Nothing wrong with a well balanced sound system to lift the performance. As long as the volume is kept at a reasonable level.

"Karen, the landlady at the GI is nice, don't dump on her, the GI hosts many very good wholly acoustic singarounds and some lightly amplified folk nights too - and will be a milling throng including beer festival over Sweeps fest."

Well said, Richard. Karen and Dal at The Good Intent are great supporters of live music (folk sessions, jazz nights, open mics etc.), and deserve credit for it.

Cresby - It DOES say Good Intent Rochester Kent - which is a pretty good clue , though a date would help !

GUEST Betsy - Tell us where so we can avoid it until the "Soundman" learns a bit of what he OUGHT to know !

Selected Thursdays. I assume that this refers to Thursday the 24th. Karen, the landlady at the GI is nice, don't dump on her, the GI hosts many very good wholly acoustic singarounds and some lightly amplified folk nights too - and will be a milling throng including beer festival over Sweeps fest.

A contradiction surely - an acoustic night with a PA System?.
There is one local to me , I don't like it and never go now. The chosen few get a good mix from the (very amateur) soundman , and strangely all others struggle including far far better performers than I am.
Whilst performing this R Sole tinkers with the sound , feed back and whistling - all this in a room which is too small to require a PA in the first place .
I can understand a Pro. using a small PA for the sake of consistency in constantly changing venues, but for gatherings of the same people ,in the same small room on a regular basis .
I prefer the other Folk Clubs near me where people sing and play "live" or as some would say "acoustically" .
