i have not found the full quetionaire , but here are some of the questions..."
* What style(s) of Roots Music do you play?
* What led you to play (and write - if you do) roots music?
* Did musicians in your family play with other families in your locale? (Who, where, jams, church, etc. were you included?)
* Who and what were your teachers?
* How were you encouraged or discouraged?
* Have you ever experienced a relationship that propelled, or got in the way of you career or creativity? (Explain)
* Do you feel the occupatonal avenues open to you are more or less because you are a    woman? (Explain)

Neat! I was wondering, at first, if it was the Music Box Project, mg mentioned last year. It's not displaying in my browser correctly, but you may see it at HERE...it was Americana Women and has some awesome recordings.

How did I miss this entirely last year?

One year ago, NPR Music sent a survey to "hundreds" of working musicians who happen to be female, and got 700 responses. They called it, "Hey Ladies: Being A Woman Musician Today". This main page links to all the responses organized by subject, and to the series of articles arising from the project. (Note: Each time you reload this page, you get a different top bit featuring a quote and some stats.)

Here's an overview of the project with the list of questions, a link to all the answers (unsorted), and various other links.

There was also reader/listener discussion, of course, via a Facebook page.

Lots to look at.

I got to the story by checking out the page for an article about the International Sweethearts of Rhythm (a 1940s all-woman, mixed-race big band), which aired yesterday.
