I'm trying to get in touch with Heather Whittaker about a live recording I have of her performing that I'd like to post on Lost Folk Tapes. Google has been uncharacteristically unhelpful. So far, nobody has seen her or her sisters for 20 years. She did record for Dingle's if that's any help. She is the same person as Heather Whytock, I don't know why she changed.

"Last November, Freefall (Post 14th November 2009), JAJ (Post 10751 dated 16th November 2009) and Graham Thursby (Post 37 dated 19th November 2009) were discussing a singer-songwriter by the name of Heather Whittaker né Whytock, who was based in Manchester (for about 14 years) and who, previously, when at St. Andrews University, played regularly at the Folk Club there. She and Fraser Nimmo produced a University Charities Campaign EP in 1973, mentioned by Graham, (apparently someone came across it on e-bay) and they were asking if anyone knew what became of her? Well, that's me, alive and kicking - if considerably older. I'm based in North Yorkshire now, with the married name of Watts. Too much 'life' detail to include here - but lovely to know that, so many years down the line, someone, somewhere, still remembers!!. PS I've still got my copy of the EP!

Unfortunately, because the houses were intended for disabled ex-servicemen, none of my generation are still there as the widows had to have special dispensation to carry on in occupation. Heather's about my age, and that was her only post on 'Beyond the Bothy' and North Yorkshire's a big place - don't know how many Heather Watts there'll be.

Hello, Heather! Gracious, that's from many moons ago - used to run the "Folk At The Malt" in Altrincham, first with the Union Folk and then toute seule when they packed up.

I have only one memory of Heather Whittaker and that is many years ago when she turned up at a folk club near Sheffield run by Bob Hazelwood

However she got little time to play and Bob ended up inviting her to play at a different venue

Nice guitarist and singer

Missed this thread whilst I was away. The last I remember of Heather was her sitting at the desk with me at a concert in Bollington many years ago.

I remember that Heather was a particular friend of dave Walmisley and John Howarth (not the JH from the Oldham Tinkers but the BBC cameraman) If you could track either of them down they may know.

Well, I'm the John Howarth in question. I used to play with Dave Walmisley and Mike Green in Stoneground Band, besides being a BBC cameraman. I remember Susie (see above), and I'm trying to figure out who Ray is (also above).

Heather sang bvs on our Sunstruck album, and I played on Heather's Dingle album, and did some string arrangements as well. Unfortunately I, too. have lost track of her. I can confirm the Whittaker/Whytock combination, but Watts is new to me.

I met her when she played at the Bell & Pump in B'ham back in 1984 (17.2.84 according to my records - I'm like that!). Mad Jocks were the residents, I played a floor spot and after the gig she showed me her version of "Lost Lover Blues". Great.

Last I heard (10 years ago?? Can't remember where from) she had moved to Germany.

'Tis I, Ray! Our paths crossed umpteen times back in the late 70s but, as both of us are guests here, its not appropriate to get too involved in personal memories. Think back to the days of "South Parade" with Ken and Dianne or to the Deanwater with Geoff Walt. One particular memory is of doing the sound for Stoneground (I don't think "band" had been added in those days) at some place near Hollingworth Lake and, when I asked where the stage was, the landlord pointed at the goldfish pool which had to be covered after the waterfall had been turned off.

It evoked some great memories.   Very happy days.   Are you performing at all?   Lots of life later, I'm still here - on the right side of the daisies as Susie Stockton puts it so optimistically.   Came back from Germany in 1995 and went off in all kinds of directions workwise (minus the singing and playing), but now trying to create some space to make way for more music.   "Hi" to everyone on the site - and is that really you, Dave, my neighbour from Edinburgh where we grew up as children?   Gee - this is truly a small world.

We were never introduced but I still fondly remember your singing and guitar playing(albeit brief spots) from the early days of Edinbrgh Folk Festival and from your visits to Edinburgh Folk Club too.

Well, Heather, it's a long time since those days in Stockport. I remember you well - though you may have forgotten me. And some of the names and places mentioned on this thread have revived other memories for me.

Sounds as though life is treating you well. Are you living back in Scotland? I moved to the other end of the country - Kent - nearly 30 years ago.

I have just been enjoying listening to her concert she gave way back
at Bergelen RAF Folk Club in June 1982. Wonderful performance.
It's sad that these times have gone !
