Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Nick Date: 26 Mar 11 - 09:30 AM >>At the moment, I am quite proud of my new song page. Aiken Drum as an example. Have you considered adding actual versions of songs on the song pages by allowing the addition of links on those pages to either mp3 or Youtube video by mudcatters? I can see that there could be problems associated with that (abuse - copyright etc) but might also have some positives |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 26 Mar 11 - 09:07 AM Max (25 Mar 11 - 08:04 PM), cool! Black dots on-the-fly, my dreams come true! You seem to use abc2ps, which requires lyrics (w:) with precise hyphening. Membership: In my view, the difference between members and non-members is not necessarily the amount of constructive contribution, but rather that the former are required to give their full names, which is a considerable risk nowadays. Maybe a "semi-membership" can be awarded, consisting of a password protecting the nick. (No compulsory cookie, please; I would be happy to enter the password whenever I post.) If the ads stay as small as I saw them on the top right corner, I don't object at all. (For my own priority about Mudcat design see here.) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Mr Red Date: 26 Mar 11 - 07:10 AM Max Just a thought as you are visiting this thread. did you get anywhere with the blickie problem & code I sent? For those not familiar. As more and more, less and less net savvy , users abound we seem to have forgotten that http:// is necessary for hyperlinks (because browsers/e-mail clients add it to the address - but can't in hyperlinks). So I devised three lines of code/mods to add to the blickie page if it wasn't there. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: JHW Date: 26 Mar 11 - 05:52 AM Odder still the f seems to have removed the 'back to the list' link |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Little Robyn Date: 26 Mar 11 - 02:44 AM I like it. Robyn |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Max Date: 26 Mar 11 - 02:05 AM As both an information resource AND a community (the 2 primary functions of mudcat), information and personality are validated by peoples' posts under a consistent identity, à la their membership. Mudcat is BY and FOR these people. The kicker is that only 35% of mudcat's traffic are THESE PEOPLE. The goal that I am running with now is to finance the mudcat with the other 65%. They're folks that pop in for lyrics or lurk. I am happy to serve them, but if they're not participating in the research or community, I can only get the GIVE from their TAKE by monetizing their eyeballs by showing them ads. Ideally, it would also encourage them to become members. and round and round she goes |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 26 Mar 11 - 01:26 AM "non-members get ads" One more nail in the coffin of those who refuse to become members! Yay! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Max Date: 25 Mar 11 - 10:33 PM Jeri, non-members get ads instead of the video and book stuff. :) And it may only be funny to nerds, but I am actually stealing (loading) the sheet music and midi player from a site that hosts a mirror of the Digitrad (that never asked to do so). Seems fair to me. They'll be a bit confused by their web stats one day and may also chuckle at the irony. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Jeri Date: 25 Mar 11 - 09:42 PM Max: totally sick! I love the links to videos and books--LOVE it! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Rapparee Date: 25 Mar 11 - 08:08 PM It indicates the key of the thread. All folk threads are in f minor. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Max Date: 25 Mar 11 - 08:04 PM That was me. You guys don't miss anything... a tiny little 'f' for 2 little seconds... I am tweaking some things, have you noticed (besides the 'f')? At the moment, I am quite proud of my new song page. Aiken Drum as an example. Pretty cool huh? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Mar 11 - 05:39 PM I guess it only works if you're logged in to Facebook. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Little Robyn Date: 25 Mar 11 - 04:23 PM I see it - I've just clicked it and it says 1 person. I'm the first person to 'like' your thread!!! Robyn |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Bernard Date: 25 Mar 11 - 11:31 AM Ummm... just above the Reply to Thread box is a little button with a lowercase 'f' and 'Like' - for linking with Facebook... I wonder if the two are in any way connected? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Mr Happy Date: 25 Mar 11 - 11:25 AM ....to put it bluntly! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Nigel Parsons Date: 25 Mar 11 - 09:51 AM But it seems to have been an f-ghost: presumably one degree scarier even than an e-ghost? That was sharp! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Mr Happy Date: 25 Mar 11 - 09:14 AM ......hmmmmm, reminiscent of the perfectly square, black bit of smut on Father Ted's window! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: GUEST Date: 25 Mar 11 - 09:13 AM It's just been moved to BS where it belongs |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Will Fly Date: 25 Mar 11 - 09:11 AM And now it's gone. Did I dream it? Have I nothing better to do? |
Subject: Tech: Lower-case 'f' top left of M'cat threads From: Will Fly Date: 25 Mar 11 - 09:10 AM Are my old eyes deceiving me? Have I been fazed by the "Folk Is Poo" thread...? When I click on thread link, up comes the thread - with a lone, lower-case "f" in the top left-hand corner of the page, just above the Mudcat Café logo. Poor, lonely little f. |
