Well, I have seen all of those Videos before but you have done a very beautiful thing by placing them all together. Love your last one by the way.
I guess you love baseball. I sure do as well.

Two out of four remaining -- functional videos, that is.
And that one of them is
Abbott and Costello "Who's On First" is endearing.

Refreshed from Red Sox Nation,
where they are all singing the praises of
Mookie Betts ... what a great moniker.

Baseball's Sad Lexicon

These are the saddest of possible words:
      “Tinker to Evers to Chance.”
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
      Tinker and Evers and Chance.
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double—
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
      “Tinker to Evers to Chance.”

Frank chance is on first, Johnny Evers is on second, Tinker is playing shortstop, and I Don’t Know is on third.

Baseball's Sad Lexicon
was authored by Franklin Pierce Adams in 1910
original title: "That Double Play Again," appeared in the New York Evening Mail.

AND:
one Chris McCaughan has SET IT TO MUSIC according to Wikipedia.
Chris McCaughan provided vocals and guitar for a musical group called
"The Lawrence Arms" in Chicago.
McCaughan's musical setting is not on a "Lawrence Arms" publication,
but from his album "We Chase the Waves" as part of Sundowner,
a group which includes a pedal steel guitar.

Here's a link to the song/recording.

Yes, F.P.A., very adroit of you^

A Ballad of Baseball Burdens

The burden of hard hitting. Slug away
Like Honus Wagner or like Tyrus Cobb.
Else fandom shouteth: “Who said you could play?
Back to the jasper league, you minor slob!”
Swat, hit, connect, line out, get on the job.
Else you shall feel the brunt of fandom’s ire
Biff, bang it, clout it, hit it on the knob—
This is the end of every fan’s desire.

The burden of good pitching. Curved or straight.
Or in or out, or haply up or down,
To puzzle him that standeth by the plate,
To lessen, so to speak, his bat-renoun:
Like Christy Mathewson or Miner Brown,
So pitch that every man can but admire
And offer you the freedom of the town—
This is the end of every fan’s desire.

The burden of loud cheering. O the sounds!
The tumult and the shouting from the throats
Of forty thousand at the Polo Grounds
Sitting, ay, standing sans their hats and coats.
A mighty cheer that possibly denotes
That Cub or Pirate fat is in the fire;
Or, as H. James would say, We’ve got their goats—
This is the end of every fan’s desire.

The burden of a pennant. O the hope,
The tenuous hope, the hope that’s half a fear,
The lengthy season and the boundless dope,
And the bromidic; “Wait until next year.”
O dread disgrace of trailing in the rear,
O Piece of Bunting, flying high and higher
That next October it shall flutter here:
This is the end of every fan’s desire.

ENVOY

Ah, Fans, let not the Quarry but the Chase
Be that to which most fondly we aspire!
For us not Stake, but Game; not Goal, but Race—
THIS is the end of every fan’s desire.

F.P.A.'s world, The Ten Year Lunch

Thank computer programs for the combination of letters that is my member-name. "Keberoxu" in my case is a computer-program-generated password. All I did was click on a "generate password" square on the screen. If the word has a meaning, I am the last to know.

My "keberoxu" password will get you to my account with a library-oriented service which allows me to order, for a reasonable fee, a copy of something in a library collection, I'm not saying which service.
It's a very nerdy thing.

Spring has arrived in eastern Massachusetts.
And the Boston Red Sox are playing a televised game,
dressed in . . . wait for it . . .

white trousers,
blue undershirts (long sleeves),
yellow t-shirts (short sleeves) on top,
and yellow socks.

Not a speck of red.

There's an explanation, but ... I'm too bored to remember it.

Sally Rogers has been performing a folk song every day for a year during the pandemic, and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. She stopped a week or two ago, saying that it was time for the Red Sox season to begin, so there were things more important than folk music (or at least that is my interpretation of what she said). So there we have it: the baseball season has begun, and folk music has stopped. Citizens, Unite!

For those who are curious about the Sox uniforms - WARNING: NO FOLK MUSIC CONTENT HERE - from masslive.com:

"BOSTON -- The Red Sox are sporting a different look than usual this weekend at Fenway Park.

The team is wearing special yellow and blue uniforms as part of Nike’s MLB “City Connect” series, becoming the first of seven clubs to debut the set during the 2021 season. The jerseys capture the color scheme of the Boston Marathon, which is held annually on Patriots’ Day in the city.

“The City Connect uniform adopts colors that honor the spirit of Patriots’ Day weekend, and features ‘Boston’ in a stencil font across the chest paying tribute to the Boylston Street finish line,” the Red Sox said in a statement last week. “The numbers ’617' are highlighted on the left sleeve as a nod to the area code for Boston and Fenway Park. The numbers appear within a racing bib, honoring one of the city’s most iconic annual sports traditions.”

“We viewed the City Connect collaboration with Nike as an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of a weekend that is uniquely Boston,” Red Sox chief marketing officer Adam Grossman said in the statement. “The departure from our traditional style pays homage to that iconic weekend, and recognizes Boston’s boldness, culture and creativity.”

The Red Sox will wear the new uniforms twice -- for Saturday’s game and again for Game 1 of Sunday’s split doubleheader. On Monday, they’ll wear the white “B Strong” jerseys with Boston written across the front like they have annually on Patriots’ Day since 2013.

Manager Alex Cora is a fan of the temporary new look.

“It means a lot in different ways,” he said before Saturday’s game. “People have their own opinions about it. I was just joking with (former Dodger and UCLA alum) Erik Karros that we’re actually wearing them in honor of him. He’s doing the FOX game. UCLA. All kidding aside, it’s something different. It feels good. You look around the other leagues and they’re very open-minded about stuff like this and people like it. From what I’m getting, the feedback and all of that, people are very excited about it. It should be a fun weekend.”

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts said the colors make him feel right at home.

“It’s much different from red,” he said. “I’m gonna tell you that. We have a yellow and like a light blue. Kind of the colors of my country flag, Aruba. I don’t know if they had anything to do with that. I don’t know. But I feel like I’m playing for Aruba.”"

So now we know.....

But to bring us back to music, here's the story of my baseball career, which began and ended in fifth grade - third string right field. I was really good at sitting on the bench.

After dropping a double header to the White Sox yesterday the two teams play again today at around 11:05 a.m. (the Sawx traditionally play a morning game on Patriot's Day) which means the Bean Eaters could lose 3 games in a 24 hour span. Not sure if that's ever been done before.
