Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: JennyO Date: 14 Apr 11 - 08:13 AM I took my laptop there 2 years ago because it was said there would be WiFi available. When I looked for where it was supposed to be, it turned out that it couldn't be set up after all. There used to be a space where you could use computers there and get on the internet for half an hour, but they seem to have done away with that too. Oh well, have fun folks, and we'll see you next year! |
Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: JennieG Date: 14 Apr 11 - 07:19 AM We are heading off tomorrow morning so won't be able to read this thread again, as we won't have internet access.....we haven't yet joined the 21st century and bought a laptop, let alone a smart phone or whatever they are. So......see youse all at the National! Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 13 Apr 11 - 10:29 PM the perennial question - where do we meet for the obligatory pic of massed Mudcatters? the Sydney push are mainly singers so we tend to get to the late-night singing sessions & will of course be at the Hymn session on Sunday to raise a song & a glass of Dr Jamison's best in Rowan's memory. It's the best singing session in the festival & the harmonies rising from all those shanty & session singers is fantastic! Religious beliefs not necessary. For the visiting UK catters - the late night singing sessions usually continue in the Session Bar stairwell - best acoustics in the whole festival, wonderful harmonies from the packed mass of singers. we can also meet at Catter gigs - George, Cloudstreet, Canberra Chris (Shiny Bums), Bodgie (Warren Fahey), Chris Maltby (Roaring Forties) Paul & Liz- are you performing? attendees so far - Sandra in Sydney freda underhill Hrothgar ... and beautiful wifey, Anne Hayes Guest, Gerry Bob Bolton JennieG & Himself Tangledwood Canberra Chris Bodgie (aka Warren Fahey) Bruce from Bathurst (or Bathurst Bruce) Cloudstreet Chris Maltby Callie Tropic Al Honorary Ozcatters aka UKcatters George Papavgeris Nessie smallpiper (Vicki Swan) Jonny Dyer Paul & Liz Davenport |

Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 10 Apr 11 - 08:46 PM I vaguely remember Troubador as the place to be on Wed night. If so they have food. Food stalls are a bit sparse so early in the festival, so I usually bring some takeaway with me. National Library is also having a lecture/concert with Andy Irvine on Wed night - From the Page to the Stage, Breathing New Life Into Dead Songs. 6-7.30pm, Theatre, Lower Ground One, LG1 Bookings essential - bookings@nla.gov.au, 02 6262 1271 |

Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: JennieG Date: 10 Apr 11 - 05:59 PM I'm not into counting sleeps, but there aren't many to go.......we are leaving on Friday, getting there on Saturday, I will be starting my volunteering by working in the office all day Sunday. If you are looking at something else to do while in Canberra, I found out last night that the National Gallery's exhibition of the Ballet Russes costumes has been extended until early May....so I will be able to see it.....yay! Many years ago someone at the Gallery had the foresight to buy the costumes when they came up for sale and now the collection is unique. I know it's not folk music, but it is kulcha, yes? Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: Bob Bolton Date: 04 Apr 11 - 08:27 PM G'day JennyO, You may well be right ... I have to accept that tackling another of those would likely give my doctor a coronary ... as well as me! My chocolate ration is now, strictly, one 25 gram segment of 70% cocoa mass black chocolate per diem. Taken from a nice German brand, packaged as 5 separately wrapped 25 gram slabs per 125 gram package ... so I can't cheat! Regard(les)s, Bob |
Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: JennyO Date: 04 Apr 11 - 06:40 AM Strange, Bob. I'm sure I got some the next year. The stall had moved and it took a bit of finding, but I have a good nose for chocolate :) |
Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: Bob Bolton Date: 04 Apr 11 - 01:30 AM G'day again George Papavgeris' "... How I missed the Italian hot chocolate - diabetes or not, I'm getting some! ..." Fortunately ... the cioccolata tradizionale stall did not make a reappearance - not even the next year! (They must have grown tired of retrieving National Folk Festival mugs still completely lined with firm, cold, chocolate!) I did try to get through one ... but my chocolate tolerance was exceeded well before halfway down the mug. Regard(les)s, Bob |

Subject: RE: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: GUEST,Canberra Chris (as guest) Date: 28 Mar 11 - 11:12 PM I will be there too - also Maria from the chorus-line hymn-singing photo linked above, which escapade she instigated. Maria (also a founding Shiny Bum Singer) has not yet worked out how to be a Mudcatter, but is obviously a fellow-traveller. For those unsure about attending this truly best singing event at the National - fear not, for I bring tidings of joy to all who would by the fourth day of the festival sing in good company a well-constructed song about anything. There are even rumoured to be a few Christians who turn up to keep an eye on the atheists. Cheers, Chris |

Subject: Ozcatters @ 2011 National Folk Festival From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 28 Mar 11 - 06:31 AM well, it's on again in a few short weeks! Starting with Folk Schools on Mon 18th - ending Tues 26th, the National Folk Festival who will be there, & more importantly where will we meet for the obligatory Ozcatter photo opportunity? If you need a Ozcatter badge, Bob Bolton will probably be able to make them again - PM your address to me & I'll post it as we've had trouble in the past getting badges to catters at the National. The usual suspects will be at Hrothgar's hymn session on Sunday, the best singing session in the whole festival Ozcatters @ Hymn session, 2010 We will also be raising a glass of Dr Jamison's best in memory of Rowan who died late last year chorus line @ Hymn session - Rowan in green shirt As you can see it's not a churchy event. Some of us will also be at the Folklore conference at the National Library on Thursday - 2010 Folklore session Last year Ross Campbell visited from the UK - this year George Papavgeris is on the program, but who else will be there? sandra |
