Good luck with tonight!

I'm hoping to catch them at Horsham Folk Club on Sunday: I'll be over that way at Ian Chisholm's "Blue Shed" expo in Ditchling in the afternoon so will try and make a day and evening of it.

This time hopefully I'll be able to relax and enjoy their show without worrying about the lighting, sound, merchandising, does the bar have enough glasses left, will we get charged an extra hour for staying beyond the agreed deadline, etc, etc :-)

I'm a big fan of them both. Smashing people, very talented and entertaining performers with their feet firmly on the ground. I hope you have a brilliant night and say hi to them from Helen and Neil in Caistor. They really are lovely musicians to work with and I doubt that anyone who comes to the gig will leave disappointed. Class act.

Leila,

I hope this one goes as well as the one I organised in Sevenoaks, Kent on 16th April, where we got a really good crowd and an excellent performance from K & J.

Good luck!

Friday 6th May 2011
at Sledmere Village Hall, Nr Driffield, East Yorkshire..

BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award nominees Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts combine astounding lap-tapping guitar, fiery fiddle and their trademark harmonies with considerable songwriting talent to make a truly distinctive sound. Since releasing their début album 'Shadows & Half Light' in 2008 (proclaimed 'one of the finest contemporary folk albums in recent memory' by FishRecords.co.uk), Gilmore and Roberts have been wowing audiences across the country with their unassumingly confident displays of instrumental technique. 2010 saw the duo complete a nationwide tour in their own right, land the coveted opening slot on Fairport Convention's 2011 Winter Tour, and release their much-anticipated second album, 'Up From The Deep'.

The new album is a major creative leap forward - self-produced, mixed by Andy Bell and mastered by Megson's Stu Hanna, 'Up From The Deep' is fresh and innovative yet deeply rooted in tradition.
"You can definitely hear our individual influences coming out more than on our previous album" says Katriona. "I've been listening to more bluegrass, and Jamie's really got stuck into the English tradition. These two ends of the spectrum, the English and the American, blend surprisingly well – Nothing At All, a traditional song collected in Dorset, sounds like it could have been written for pedal steel!" The contributions of PJ Wright (Little Johnny England) on pedal steel and Cia Cherryholmes (of Grammy-nominated Nashville band Cherryholmes) on banjo deftly enhance the transatlantic feel, and the sound is augmented by Jack Theedom (double bass) and Dom Howell (percussion), both veterans of the duo's first record.
"Although most of the material is original, there's a lot of traditional influence in our own songs, and in the choice of subjects." Katriona explains. "This album is really about solidifying our style - many people have said we make a much bigger sound than you'd expect from two people." Indeed they do and, with 'Up From The Deep', they are about to make an even bigger impression on both fans and the media alike.

Aside from their work together, both Katriona and Jamie are familiar faces on the folk circuit - Katriona toured for 3 years with all-girl indie folk sensations Tiny Tin Lady and now appears regularly with Rosie Doonan's Snapdragons, while Jamie has played with young English traditionalists Kerfuffle since 2007.

On this very special evening, we have a very special support.... PJ Wright!!
Leicester-born PJ, after three decades working in the field of R&B and rock (remember The Steve Gibbons Band?), some years ago moved back into the world of folk (Little Johnny England, Ashley Hutchings' Morris On Band) and Fairport Convention offshoots The Dylan Project, and the duo Peggy & PJ. His critically-acclaimed "Hedge of Sound" solo album demonstrates his songwriting and instrumental skills, further evidenced on the recent P&PJ CD "Galileo's Apology" and is currently touring with american folk-blues virtuoso Brooks Williams. PJ appears on many artists' records as a session guitarist – recent local credits include Circus Envy, Wendy Arrowsmith and indeed Katriona & Jamie, which is why he'll be at Moonbeams as their opening act (and possible joiner-in!)
