Mount And Go

      Am                   D          G
My parents married me right young

G
To an old laird both bald and dumb

      Em            D         C             Em
His love was done but mine new-sprung

          Bm                                    C
So I'll fly the plains with my laddie-o

And I would leave my good peat stack
So would I my good kale yard
So would I my old bald laird
And I'll fly the plains with my laddie-o

CH:   Come bonny laddie, mount and go
Hey bonny laddie, mount and go
Come bonny laddie, mount and go
Mount and I'll go with you-o

And when the old laird lay fast asleep
Out of his bed she did quickly creep
And the keys to the cabin she did keep
And she's flown the plains with her laddie-o

And the laird's awakened in the hall
The sheets were cold and she was awa'
With the weight of herself in gold and all
She's flown the plains with her laddie-o    (CH)

And you'll go down to yon seashore
And you'll see no ship where she was before
You'll ask of the skipper if she's been there
Or if any of her sailors saw her, o

And as she sailed out o'er yon lee
She drank a toast right merrily
She's thrown the wine glass into the sea
For joy she has found with her laddie-o    (CH)

And when she's landed o'er yon lee
She's lady of fifty ploughs and three
Lady of fifty ploughs and three
And she dearly loves her laddie-o    (CH)

The McCalmans did a different Mount and Goabout a girl following her soldier who ends up shot.
Chorus was (and with songs sung by Scots, I am never certain if the songs are from Scotland, or just pronounced with all words converted to the Scottish equivalent - Geordies I know also tend to auto translate into local dialect wherever the song originates) ;-

Mount and go
Mount and mak ye ready
Mount and go
And be a captain's lady.

Quack!
GtD.

I really wonder why I bother sometimes. I take the time to find the lyrics, get out my guitar to make sure the chords are right, then line up the chord symbols above the text, and post. And the OP never comes back.

Hmpf.
