Subject: RE: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Nov 11 - 11:06 PM I just took a friend of mine who needed a good but not too expensive guitar to that store and showed her the Avalon, and she bought it, so it has a good home now. Nice to know it's going to stay in the neighborhood, as it were. |
Subject: RE: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: bubblyrat Date: 18 Oct 11 - 05:29 AM Well, when I used to play my Avalon in the Herschel Arms Irish "session" in Slough ,ace Irish player / singer Frank Docherty liked it so much that he went out & bought one as well ! Good old Frank ; back in Derry now , I believe ?? |
Subject: RE: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: GUEST Date: 17 Oct 11 - 05:49 PM I own an avalon AS-101-ce. Best sound ever. It truly is worth every penny. I spent around 500-550£ on mine in belfast second hand. No regrets |
Subject: RE: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: bubblyrat Date: 01 Jul 11 - 05:40 AM I have owned and played an Avalon AS -101 CE for about ten years now. The AS stands for ,or at least the "s", Silver series , ie Korean-made, as "Bodders" says. The CE means Cutaway "Electro " . It has a solid cedar top, laminated mahogany back and sides, with some pearwood trim , and has stood up to a lot of abuse over the years ! The electronics comprise a Fishman " Prefix Plus" which is more than adequate for my "plugged in" needs. It has a beautiful, rich, deep tone, many people having said how nice it sounds ; I have increased both tone and volume by using solid brass bridge-pins, as I do with other guitars (they suit my Guild as well ). I paid £550-00 for it , and it was worth every penny, believe me , so " Go for it " !!! |
Subject: RE: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: GUEST,Bodders Date: 30 Jun 11 - 11:54 AM Might be a bit late on the response here but the 'AS' or silver series are the same guitars but made in the east as opposed to Ireland. Obviously a bit lower quality, so its not worth thousands but in my opinion they're incredible value. I've got the exact model as you describe an I love it so easy to play and sounds like a top end acoustic to me |
Subject: RE: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: theleveller Date: 01 Apr 11 - 07:03 AM I would snap it up. I have a small-bodied cutaway Avalon in Brazilian Rosewood that is absolutely beautiful (nearly as nice as my beloved Lowden, but in a different way) and I have it insured for £4500. Avalon took over the Lowden factory in Northern Ireland when George Lowden sold out and set up on his own. They are beautiful hand-crafted instruments. It's an absolute bargain at that price. Subject: RE: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: michaelr Date: 31 Mar 11 - 08:26 PM It's a sort of second-label Lowden - like Sigma to Martin. My friend has two diferent models. Bery nice guitars, should be well worth the price. Of course your friend has to love it first. |
Subject: Avalon AS-100 guitar From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Mar 11 - 08:15 PM I came across one of these today at a local music store. A used one in x-condition. It sounds very good to me. Price is $599. Anyone here acquainted with these guitars? I'm thinking this one would be a good purchase for a friend of mine who's looking for a nice but not too expensive steel string guitar. |
