Festival Update 03/2011

Just to let everyone know that sadly we have had only a little interest shown to date from people willing to join the committee for 2012 and even then it is mainly to help over the weekend (which is not really required as we already have excellent stewards).

It also seems that we were prescient in cancelling this year as Oldham Council have apparently decided to dig up the playing fields to install drainage ( the need for which all our regulars will fully understand ).

Unfortunately this is likely to happen over the whole summer and we would have been left without a camp site. Furthermore the council may well decide not to reinstate the running track due to its cost and this would deprive us and all others who use the Churchill Fields of hard standing and lead to heavy vehicles being banned. This would certainly make the Festival much less viable in the future.

On a happier note, all is not yet completely lost as Dave Minich and the Cleckheaton Festival Committee have kindly offered to take over the running of the "Wars of the Roses" this year and it will be a feature of their Festival. Most of the usual suspects will be there and we would heartily recommend all our regulars to give it a try. It takes place on the 1st-3rd July and details can be obtained from their website at

http://www.cleckheatonfolkfestival.org

Until then all the very best and see some of you over the summer.

Jan (Secretary) and the committee

I sympathise with Jan and the Committee.

Having really enjoyed many Saddleworth Festivals - and really liking Uppermill - are there any mudcatters out there interested in an informal get together over the weekend date for a few signarounds/sessions in pubs (if landlords willing) as per Robinhood Bay festival?

I am sure some locals would turn up just to keep the festival ticking over. Count me in

Hello Jan

Thanks for the update and lets hope the field is back to even better eventually

Committee doers needed for 2012 still is the message!

All the best

Ray

Be nice p'raps at some point if there could be a kind of mini one day festival in the Con Club in Uppermill (or Greenfield) or around the local pubs like the Waggon, Commercial for local (and mebbe not so local) singers/artistes to keep the SAFRA flag flying ??
