I wonder if it's a reference to a gal who gets drunk lots and then drinks coffee to 'sober up'?

He definitely sings joe. There's a 1986 recording on youtube and he still sings joe.

The only joe I know is coffee--a cuppa joe. I doubt that's what Ikey meant.

I've transcribed the lyrics as close as I can get them from Banjo Ikey's youtube clip with Martin and Bogan. The first line mentions "joe". What does this mean, or am I mis-hearing it?
