Subject: RE: The Deckman in Concert From: Charley Noble Date: 06 Apr 11 - 09:16 AM Bob- We Down Easters have our own version of "Away Idaho" which is titled "Away Isle au Haut" and here's a sample verse: "They say, there is a land, Where the crystal waters flow, And beds of cod are there by God, Way out at Isle au Haut." I wonder which came first? Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: The Deckman in Concert From: Deckman Date: 06 Apr 11 - 12:34 AM This was the dedication of a 12 month exhibition of the life and times of Isaac Stevens, first territorial governor of the Wwashington territory, 1853-55. It also spoke to the 150th anniverary of the civil war. I sang a mish mash of folk songs that were sung in the territory in the mid 1850, then melded into a half dozen civil war songs. At the end of the program I sang "Last Letter Home." I introduced this by saying this is a song that reflects a common theme to all wars. Secretary of State Sam Reed was dressed in a full Union Generals uniform. There were a score of civil war "re-enactors" (sp?) in full uniform there, as well as a bugler. I opened the program, and I also closed it with "Last Letter Home." When I finished, the silence was profound. It really hit them. It was an interesting afternoon for us. I may do more of this kind of thing. bob |

I had to restrain myself from singing: "Banks of Marble." bob |
