Alan Day and I have been at it again, and you can see the latest results - two waltzes - from the geezer with the squeezer and his young friend...

Snowflakes are Falling & La Marienne

Just a bit of innocent shameless promotion...

Technical questions:

what are the two gizmos on the coffee table?

how was the video made? What equipment?

By the way, I enjoyed the interactions between the two of you - looking up, eye contact, and ending the waltz together. So many people get in a group and then play all alone.

Could you post a MIDI or abc of the Snowflake piece? I would love to be able to play it.

I will send the dots over to Will and he will answer all the technical details. They were two mikes on the table.
He seems to be very clever at these videos . He gives me a lot of grief however.
Al

I am wrong they are not mikes but recorders, simultaneously recording both instruments.
I will Email Will and get him to explain what he is up to.
(If he can remember)
Thanks gnu
Al

Yes, of course, if Will can remember. Him being so ancient and all. (not)

Your 'Snowflakes' waltz is a lovely composition, Alan.

I've updated my membership so I can be PM'd. That's better than posting an e-mail address. Thanks.

The recording devices are two identical Zoom H2 Handy Recorders. They have a 90 degree angle mic in the face of the machine and a 120 degree angle mic in the rear. So - I have front-facing one before me to pick up (mainly) the guitar, and a rear-facing one in front of Al to pick up (mainly) the box. The 120 degree angle picks up both right and left hands of the Jefferies Anglo concertina.

I fed both recordings into Garageband software on my Mac and synched them. When they were synched, I topped and tailed them and then changed the pan and EQ levels. The video was shot with me on the left and Al on the right, so I panned the guitar Zoom signal about 20 degrees left and the concertina Zoom signal about 20 degrees right. I then adjusted the volume levels so that I got a decent balance and - hey presto!

I then hacked into Al's bank account and sucked out his pension - well, not really...

Forgot to say - the video was shot with a Sony HD camcorder and fed into my Mac with iMovie software and topped and tailed. The camera soundtrack was detached from the video and deleted - then the mixed Zoom sound was synched to the video. Credits and a fade added last of all. Saved at a decently large compression and then uploaded to YouTube.
