Subject: guitars for self-defence From: Jack Campin Date: 08 Apr 11 - 08:29 AM Man defends himself against a lethal assault with a broken guitar... http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/Roofer-fends-off-bottle-attackers.6748175.jp |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: Midchuck Date: 08 Apr 11 - 09:00 AM If he'd had a banjo, both muggers would be dead or near death, and he'd be pretty much uninjured. P. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: GUEST,999 Date: 08 Apr 11 - 09:06 AM Midchuck is right. Nothin' like a drum with a stick to brain someone. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 08 Apr 11 - 09:17 AM I'm bothered by the passivity of the reporting. No interest in why it happened, how to prevent it in the future, or what to watch out for while on the streets. I'm certainly glad the poor man survived. Too bad about the guitar, which probably wasn't broken when he set out from home. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: alanabit Date: 08 Apr 11 - 09:28 AM I am glad he described this despicable assault by two armed cowards. I hope the police have the right men and that they jug the bastards for a very long time. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: BobKnight Date: 08 Apr 11 - 09:43 AM I think my Fender Precision Bass, might come in handy in a similiar case. Actually, no pun was intended, but if it was still in the case, so much the better. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 08 Apr 11 - 09:58 AM I have a habit of buying cheap electric guitars to fix up and modify, which means all too often I never get round to putting all the bits back together again... So I can easily lay hands on a variety of strategically positioned solid maple guitar necks if any skanky junkie burglar ever chances his luck at our house while I'm at home..... |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: Lox Date: 08 Apr 11 - 10:05 AM Poor guy. What a horrendous story. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: Rapparee Date: 08 Apr 11 - 11:02 AM When guitars are banned, only bands will have guitars. Or something like that. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: kendall Date: 08 Apr 11 - 11:28 AM I'll bet the woman was at the root of this. Those birds had a bone to pick with the victim. Good old second amendment. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: Rog Peek Date: 08 Apr 11 - 11:36 AM Of course Woodie Guthrie used his guitar to defend himself against Fascists! Rog |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: Jack Campin Date: 08 Apr 11 - 11:44 AM I'm bothered by the passivity of the reporting. No interest in why it happened, how to prevent it in the future, or what to watch out for while on the streets. In Scots law it can be difficult for a paper to report all they know about a crime once somebody has been charged - it might be seen as making a fair trial impossible. In this instance, since they've got two suspects charged already, and with the most serious offence they could have thrown at them, the police are moving very fast. Muirhouse is a grim housing estate where a lot of bad stuff happens. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: Charley Noble Date: 08 Apr 11 - 11:53 AM Grim incident. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: Bernard Date: 08 Apr 11 - 12:09 PM A Burns Bison Bass - that would sort 'em out!! A sad reflection on modern times, I fear... |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: alanabit Date: 08 Apr 11 - 12:31 PM What lousy bit of typing earlier! I meant to write: "I am glad he survived..." Still, I really did mean it when I wrote that I hope the two bastards, who jumped him, get jugged. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: kendall Date: 08 Apr 11 - 04:31 PM I don't think the reason is important. |
Subject: RE: guitars for self-defence From: GUEST,stew Date: 08 Apr 11 - 05:05 PM I always liked the feel of my Fender strat as a medivial type chopping device. Stopped a few beer bottles too in it's day. |
