I only got there for 1 day (Saturday) but it was thoroughly enjoyable. Tried a lot more singing than I ever do elsewhere - great fun.

Despite being totally abandoned on Sunday (Except for a nice natter over a pint with Badger and Tig I had a nice peaceful night on my own in the field

Excellent weekend, excellent singing and playing, Shanty Annas out in full force. Good location, warm welcome from landlady, and a barmaid in the true tradition. Delicious chilli Sat night. Weather great, it only rained twice; when we were pitching and striking camp!

Great day on Saturday, thanks to the Duck Family and all present. I was entertained all day by some great singers and musicians. Thanks again for the welcome, not knowing anyone there, in person rather than by their Mudcat name, did not detract from my very enjoyable day.The chance to sing in such good company was appreciated.
Hope the rest of the weekend goes as well, off to my usual Sunday evening Folk Club, at the Red Lion at Wath, tonight full of stories of my day with you all.

We got back an hour ago - Kendall was getting a headache so we came home.

It was great to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. Some amazingly good music - I wish I'd taken a recorder to steal some songs. Lady P sang a 16th century song I would love to get to learn - it was wonderful.

I wish that we could have stayed longer, maybe another time. Many thanks to Leadfingers for the loan of musical instruments during the afternoon and to Mrs Duck for all the organisation. The Ducklings did a great job running the tombola and raffle. Maddy was our personal barmaid - it took a while to realise who she was, she certainly has grown up.

If I'm not too knackered from the unusually packed week I've had, will try to get there for Sunday late morning/early afternoon. Even if there's no singing at that point, it'll be an opportunity to chat with people...

Important message especially for caravans. Make sure you use the West Lane entrance to the side of the pub which gives straight access onto the field. Coming in the other way is a bit of a sharp turn.

Hope I don't get as tiddly as the last Yorkshire Gathering I came to a few years back (somewhere out in the sticks near huge cooling towers of a power station if my befuddled brain remembers rightly) when I bounced off the walls on my way back to my tent and ended up collapsing comotose half in and half out of my tent! - UNTIL some giggling damsels (you know who you are!) spotted my plight and managed to drag me into my tent out of the rain and undress me and put me to bed (the last bit might not be quite true but it is a nice fantasy anyway!!)

Not sure if the gathering is just for the one night on Friday 13 May or also Saturday 14 May as well now cos of mentions of noshing on Saturday evening!?

Thought it was just a one night do so please do advise and include me for Saturday fare if quite a few are staying over (including my mate Muppett hopefully).

With less than 4 weeks to go I need to start confirming numbers and arrangements with the pub. I need to know who is camping and some idea of how many are going to be eating Saturday evening - suggested chilli/veg curry and rice. Landlady needs to order in beer and food in advance so she could do to know soon.

I am starting this thread as we only have 5 weeks before the gathering and I need to finalise things with the pub.
The weekend is the 13th May at The White Horse Inn Sharlston Nr Wakefield.
There is camping available on an adjacent field at £4 for caravans and £2 for tents per night.
It is not an exclusively Mudcat weekend so any folkie friends are very welcome.
We have use of the function room and possibly a party tent all weekend and I have promised we will all drink lots of beer. The pub does excellent food and I would recommend booking a Sunday lunch. I am proposing a communal style meal on the Saturday evening with something like chilli and veggie curry with rice.
There will be song and music sessions and sometimes a mix and chocolate.
Some folk have already expressed an interest on the other thread
