This song is in the DT under the title THE DRAPES OF ROTH, attributed to "Alan Sherman".

However, according to this Allan Sherman discography, the correct title of this song is THE BALLAD OF HARRY LEWIS. And the spelling is Allan, not Alan.

We keep thinking we will have the tune problem licked any day now. In the meantime, you can download the database to be able to play the tunes to over half of the songs.

Does anyone have chords for this lovely mournful tune? Ive found two different versions of the lyrics in DT, but neither had the chords.

John Renbourne did a beautiful, haunting version on the album "A Maid in Bedlam" , but I have the tune kept only in my memory, not on vinyl, and thus i'm still searching for the "lost chords". (Neither moody nor blue, I'll be happier still when I can piece together a finger-pickin' good version with chords that can carry the tune.)

Discussion of Rindacellar reminded me also of great Allan Sherman. Does anyone have the lyrics to the "Drapes of Roth" (parody of the Battle Hymn of the Republic)? All I can recall is that after the fire they were sifting through the warehouse where the drapes of roth were stored, and it ends with a flourish on "french-fried gaberdine". Thanks.
