....but not the dreaded F chord.

But in answer to your question, Devilhead, I guess we haven't spent much time posting chords to songs here. If there's a particular song you want chords for, you can post a request here and usually get an answer. I've never been able to get up the coordination to be fast enough to actually change chords, so I don't know much about playing. I gather that most good guitarists prefer to work out their own chords, so what Dick and Susan aim for here is to get the entire melody of a song included in the Digital Tradition database.
Now, there is a sneaky way to get chords for the database tunes: download the database onto your computer [from this page (click)], and install it on your computer. Then download the $10 shareware program called ABCMUS (click). While it is meant primarily for tunes in ABC format, the program also plays the tunes from the Digital Tradition, which are in SongWright format. One of the features of ABCMUS is that it has an automatic chordsetting utility, and the chords it produces are pretty good.
If might take you a little while to learn how to use ABCMUS and the downloadable version of our database, but then you'll have access to chords for thousands of songs.
Another resource that may help you is the Rise Up Singing songbook, from Sing Out! It has lyrics and chords for some 1,200 songs, mostly folk. Accomplished folk musicians tend to say horrible things about the songbook, but it's a great resource for duffers like you and me.

Devilhead,

Joe is right on. I might add that chords for a specific song are sometimes a personal choice. Other times, you need the "right" chords to duplicate a certain "sound" the song may have.

I would encourage you to post requests with a separate thread for each song. Usually someone here knows the song.

Folksinger's Wordbook, by Irwin Silber, also has words and chords. You might want to check out Jerry Silverman's Folk Song Encyclopedia (2 volumes in large format paperbacks). These and other good used song books can often be found via the web. Check out www.Bookfinder.com, etc. Good hunting!

Could anyone tell me both the lyrics and the chords to the song, "The Maid Of Coolmore". The version I have is on "Old Hag You Have Killed Me" on the Bothy Band, and it's difficult to pick out the words in some parts. THanks for your help. Dave

Dave in Japan -

You'll probably get a faster answer if you create a separate thread for a particular song. I don't know that one, but someone probably does.

Joe-

I guess that makes me an "old duffer" as well ;) You know I'm another RUS-er But thanks for the tip on ABCMUS - I wasn't aware that it could give me CHORDS for the wealth of great songs in the DT. I just better NOT download that right away, or I'll NEVER get any housework done!
