Date: 18 Apr 11 - 06:38 PM

It's out now! Andrew 'Crane Driver' McKay and 'Sussex' Carole Etherton have a new CD. It's called 'Silver, Stone and Sand', and you can find out about it on our website Crane Drivin' Music. Eighteen songs, mostly written by us in what we like to consider a traditional British style (don't go there) full of social history, local legends, drama and humour, with a cast of thousands (well, quite a few, anyway). Tavern wenches, smugglers, soldiers, sailors, quarrymen, cockle women, a disgruntled architect and a ballistic lighthouse-keeper - they're all there.

You can hear sample clips of some of the tracks, and order the CD by Paypal from anywhere, in any currency. Our earlier CDs are still available too, at reduced prices now. And we'll give you the postage free, anywhere, so it won't cost any more that way.

We (and the CD) will be at the UK Shanty festival in Ellesmere Port over Easter, and at the Upton on Severn festival over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Hope to see many of you there.

Andrew & Carole

Looking forward to seeing you both at Easter and enjoying some two-way moral and vocal support for our various sets...
(No Catters were harmed in the wording of this modest piece of self-promotion.)
Oh, and I'd better stay on-thread and mention the cd too, for that I'm sure will be well worth hearing.

I've been looking forward for some time to hearing it! I've actually been singing one of Andrew's songs from it for a few years now, and got to hear a few more when they were last over to the Getaway and loved all I heard. I'm sure I'll as be pleasantly astounded by this CD as I have been for those in the past.

Well, we're back from Ellesmere Port and Upton, where the CD and the songs from it had a good reception. Remember, you can buy through the website with a credit or debit card from anywhere, in any currency that Paypal recognises, and we won't charge extra for the postage. You don't need your own Paypal account. The system has been used, and does work.

Track list:

Have A Good Time
Stones (Jon Heslop)
Old Jim Jones
Limestone Harvest
Closing of the Day (Carole Etherton)
Navigator Lady
Laying Up Silver
Out The Sands (Carole Etherton)
Captain Courtney's Mistake
Gargoyles (Maria Cunningham)
Cobre Days
Pirate's Wench (Carole Etherton)
'Orrible Lies
The Swansea Devil
Silver and Sand
Poling Copper
Johnny Come Over the Hill
Let Me Breathe

Unless otherwise marked, songs are by me (Andrew McKay). Lyrics are published on the website.

Total playing time about 56 minutes, which I reckon is good value for money. We're always happy for people to take up and sing our songs, so if you're looking for new material, there could well be something for you here. Please let us know - we won't be pursuing you for money or anything, it's just that as songwriters we never get to hear people sing our songs, they always wait 'til we're not there!

Andrew

Blatant refresh.

Have just had a review of the CD from Mike O'Connor (Crowdercref on this forum) in which he says:

"'Silver, Stone & Sand' is a most enjoyable listen; the songs are infectious and deserve to be widely 'sung out'. Andrew and Carole are particularly adept at writing and performing songs to make you smile and songs to make you join in. The complete set paints a vivid picture of times past with a broad spectrum of musical colours. For example, the delightful 'Captain Courtney's Mistake' stands in contrast to the atmospheric 'Closing of the Day'. The songs are all very different, but all are well observed and well crafted."

Mike is highly regarded as a performer (he worked with Martyn Wyndham Read for several years) as a songwriter ('Carrying Nelson Home') and as a record producer, so if he's happy, we're happy.

If you're not comfortable buying from the website (it's painless really) we'll be at Bude Folk Festival shortly, and at Bideford in August. Hope to see some of you there.

Andrew

Are the words to " 'Orrible Lies" available anywhere? Some aren't quite clear on the CD.
