Can't help much, but it may be down to lyrics/spelling. There's a comment to "her daddy called her Paddy, cos" . Maybe the owner of that site can help.

Cheers
Nigel

Felix kept on, kept on walking still,
He was like his daddy, so they called him Paddy.
Paddy had the whooping cough and Felix had the flue,
Paddy died, Felix cried,
Went to the funeral with his bride,
And he kept on walking still.

Don't think it' Irish - maybe Irish American - popular in the first half of the 20th century.

Intro
In the Emerald Isle of Erin
there's a lass? beyond comparing.
Her Daddy called her Paddy (in the hopes?)
For he thought she'd be a laddie.
She's the sweetest? little lad you've ever seen.

You've a bit of a brogue and it's most alluring, Paddy
(Your ways are distraction to me)
You're a bit of a rogue with the mischief in you, Paddy

Sorry that's all the lead I can give you, must be the whiskey.
I'll ask my Da, even at 102 he remembers lyrics uncannily.

My mother used to sing a fragment that ran

Sure her daddy called her Paddy,
For he hoped she'd be a laddie....

With a bit of a brogue,
Sure any man who meets you Paddy
Is bound to be falling in love.

I don't think she knew any more of it, but I remember it from early on, so it was probably an early fifties hit.

In the Isle, the Isle of Erin
There's a Land beyond comparing
sure there's nowhere like Armagh, across the sea
and her daddy called her Paddy
for he hoped she'd be a Laddie
shes as sweet as the Isle of Eire you'll see

You're a bit of a rogue with the mischief you're in Paddy
the cheek of old Nick plain to see
with a bit of a brogue that is most alluring Paddy
your ways are distracting to me

With two eyes always smiling
so blue and beguiling
the hue of the blue sky's above
and I'll state sure as fate
any man that gets you Paddy
is bound to be falling in love.

I learned this from my father many years ago. You are almost there Malcolm.

Paddy

Verse

In the Emerald Isle of Erin,
There's a lass beyond comparin'
Sure there's no-one like her far as man can see
Tho' her daddy called her Paddy,
'Cos he'd hoped she'd be a laddie,
She's as sweet and dainty as a lass could be.

Chorus

You're a bit of a rogue with the mischief you're in Paddy
A chic of Auld Nick plain to see,
With a bit of a brogue that is most allurin' Paddy
Your ways are distractin' to me.
Two eyes always smilin', so sweet and beguilin'
The hew of the blue skies above,
And I'll state, sure as Fate, any man who meets you Paddy,
Is bound to be fallin' in love.

My Mum was part Irish and this was her party piece in a simpler time when families sang round the piano..JO Uncannily I was talking to my son about it today and how I could find no record of it and here is this thread! To my recollection Mary in Glasgow is the nearest to the words I remember. How lovely to see these words again after all these years

Subject: Lyr Req: Dad's Song
From: Joe Offer
Date: 30 Aug 23 - 07:49 PM

This request came in an email from Joe B:

You’re a bit of a rogue with the mischief you’re in Paddy;
a chip off old Nick plain to see …
with a bit of a brogue that is most alluring Paddy;
your ways are distractin to me.

With eyes ever smilin, so sweet and beguilin,
the hue of the blue up above…
and Ill swear sure as Fate any man who meets you Paddy
is bound to be fallin in love.

There is another verse:
if ever im left in this world without you Paddy …

my Dad and his were Scots/irish/ Canadian. Lost the Faith and women voters lost the nation.

I was named after this song. My Dad was Patrick but both my Mom and Dad loved this song that was released in N.Y. in 1950's I think. My Mom sang it to me once and she wrote the lyrics down for me. I still have it somewhere. Only change in your lyric was,I think she sang "Blue eyes so beguiling <3

Does anyone know where we can find a recording of it.\
I was named after it. My Mom sang it for me.And wrote the lyrics in her script. <3
