Subject: RE: Maruxa: a zarzuela by Amadeo Vives Roig From: Monique Date: 21 Apr 11 - 02:28 AM But in the Spanish notice they day he'd send it "as soon as he come back" so unless he wins a fortune overnight, he should be back to work on May 2nd! |
Subject: RE: Maruxa; zarzuela by A. V. Roig From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 20 Apr 11 - 08:42 PM Monique, I have an all zones player for DVD. I may order, but the action in a this zarzuela is minimal, the only advantage is seeing the performers in costume. Amused by the 'English' notice on the website, that they were on vacation, and the item would be sent 'if they come back'. |
Subject: RE: Maruxa; zarzuela by A. V. Roig From: Monique Date: 20 Apr 11 - 06:15 PM I also came across that but there could be a problem of dvd zone as it's from Spain and Spain is in Zone 2 while you're in Zone 1 DVD's standard. |
Subject: RE: Maruxa; zarzuela by A. V. Roig From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 20 Apr 11 - 01:28 PM Thanks, Monique. I have Doña Francisquita, but I didn't connect it with Maruxa, having forgotten the composer's name. I have ordered the cds (Monserrat Caballe); located it on Ebay, UK store, about $30 US. I don't know if the booklet with it has the score or just a summary. |
Subject: RE: Maruxa; zarzuela by A. V. Roig From: Monique Date: 20 Apr 11 - 04:47 AM You can get more information by looking for "Maruxa Amadeo Vives" (Maruxa -pr. "mahrooshah" is a diminutive of María, like Maruxinha/Maruxiña -Mariquita in Sp.) You can read the plot here (in English) there's a link to two songs lyrics with an English translation. Here you can download a pdf with the lyrics, here is the list of all the recordings. |
Subject: RE: Maruxa; zarzuela by A. V. Roig From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 19 Apr 11 - 09:56 PM I took what was in the heading and assumed it would work. I should have checked it. But yes, your link works well. The other one gets there too. I have gotten out of the habit of using links except to a specific news item or the like- I insert the name of the site in google and go from there. E. g., catclassica brings up the site in google and I click on that. (Love that google!) Catclassica has become a favorite of mine for classical music. The language is Catalan only, and Catalan artists get preference, but the music is all sorts. |

Subject: Maruxa; zarzuela by A. V. Roig From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 19 Apr 11 - 09:15 PM Maruxa, a zarzuela by Amadeu Vives Roig, is being played on Catclassica, Catalunya Radio. I had never heard this musical drama before, and I am entranced. Monserrat Caballe sings the soprano role, with Vicente Sardinero, baritone, Pedro Lavirgen, tenor, and Victor de Natrke, base, in the leading roles. The music and the singing is tuneful and superb. Monserrat Caballe is well-known, but the others are new to me. I had to search for the cds, and found that it is out-of-print, but Ebay turned it up for me. There is also another recording. The name of the composer is in Catalan on this website, I don't know how it would be rendered in Spanish or carried in catalogues in English. Has anyone else heard and liked this zarzuela? http://www.catclassica.cat/index_cc.htm |
