The vase of daffodils on my table, which my son gave to me yesterday, sunshine yellow with rich, golden orange centres.

The weather today. Tunisian Blue Skies and Egyptian Sand Sunshine.

The two collared doves from next door, sitting in my mimosa tree again, as close as they can be to one another.

My little squirrel running through the branches of my trees as I'm sitting here typing this, his fluffy tail swaying behind him as he balances like a ballerina.

And...just for a moment, all is Beautiful....

Went to our village church this afternoon to meditate and pray. No-one there, silence except for birdsong outside, cool air smelling of old stone and wooden pews. Church has been stripped for Good Friday, no flowers, all vestments gone, just bare altar, pulpit and lectern. Strangely beautiful in its austerity. Spent an hour there, very calming yet uplifting.

A grey squirrel no doubt. 22 years ago I used to sit in the woods near Durham with my 8-year-old daughter watching reds. All gone now though.

Also from 22 years ago: bought 3 Feet High and Rising on CD yesterday, which is certainly a beautiful thing; a thing of beauty and joy forever. And even Barrow-in-Furness looks beautiful from Cleveleys (my pic from last week - click for bigger view). Early May Blossoms along wayside hedgerows and new bright yellow Bodum cafetierre from TKMaxx for spring...

Patch Adams reading a deeply loving letter he received, from a young girl who was dying. The fact he received it meant that had already died. It will bring tears, but I don't apologise for that...because it's OK to die and we don't talk about it nearly enough, as a species.

I've put it in here because I happen to think Dr. Hunter 'Patch' Adams is one of the most beautiful people on the planet.

He's dedicated his life to loving everyone he comes into contact with, making them laugh, bringing them joy, easing their pain, making it OK to die, taking away the fears...and trying to change the whole ethos of patient care, not just in the USA, but around the world.

I think he is an absolutely magical person.

I've just been watching my blackbird, a few minutes ago, through my binoculars. He's sitting in his usual place, at the top of my weeping birch tree, head tipped right back, beak wide open, little feet holding on tightly, as there's a slight breeze picking up, and he's trilling to the entire neighbourhood!

I swear he's smiling as he sings. He really does have the most glorious voice, and he knows it. His eyes have the same sunshine yellow around them as in his beak..

I've decided to call him 'Bertie' after 'The King's Speech', as he has a voice to be proud of. :0)

The Azaleas are about to bloom... some are open, others have just little tips of color showing...but I KNOW what they will be like is a few days, and can already see them in my mind.

BillD, I was out today at a large water garden on the Norfolk Broads, and the candelabra primulas were out in vast numbers. There were azaleas in bud there too. But my favourite were the ferns, gigantic ones just emerged, buckler, male and ladyfern, in vivid green, also gunnera. Isn't it lovely to see all this after the terrible winter we had!

Until I hid them, I had twenty glorious, righteously Spring-looking dyed eggs on my kitchen table. The colours were so vibrant and Spring-y I had to take pix. Eight of them were a bit subdued, in that they started out as brown eggs, but the dye still took and my grandson and I saw beauty in them, too. His exuberance was beautiful. He made several high split-kicks he's so excited. Reminded me of a young colt kicking up its heels.

Nice one, Will - I still use those mix-ups, though I wait in vain for those grandchildren as both my son & daughter have better things to do. I'm not sure who first said who's been sleeping in my porridge? but it still works a treat.

I knew I'd seen this thread somewhere - It has just taken me a little time for me to catch up with spring :-)

Went to my beloved Yorkshire Dales today - Only on the fringe, doing a bit of househunting. But it was glorious. I know there is beauty everywhere, I see it all the time, even in Salford! But it is in the Dales that my heart really soars. Two lambs ran up to us in a field just outside Long Preston and the grin split my face as my grown up daughter would not come away from stroking them. In the car, going through Rathmell, when the Mrs burst into 'Jerusalem' I knew it was going to be a good day.

But the crowning glory, in Langcliffe, where the village green has stood for centuries and we were contemplating bridsong, nature and all things bright and beautiful a sound came to my ear like no other. A deep rumble felt in the back of my head rather than heard. Then slowly edging into conciousness as I realised it could be only one thing...

I was very disappointed when a Triumph rolled around the corner. But, wait, it hadn't finished! Just behind it a Vincent Black Shadow! Now, nature is indeed beautiful but man can enhance it with a church spire here and there; a haycart crossing a river and classic Britsh bikes in a Dales village is proof that God exists:-)

Don't get me wrong. No rose coloured glasses about Britsish engineering. - I well remember spending hours by the side of the road with my T110 but when they work, boy do they do it well.

So, spring is here, my holiday, which started on Monday but I had to do the accounts yesterday, has got truly underway. And things are indeed, beautiful.

Dave, you want to come to my village on the second weekend in June! We have a bjke rally/mini festival! The Druids come from Europe (especially Germany) and all over the UK. It's my favourite weekend to live in my idyllic village in the beautiful English countryside - when the village green is covered with people in spectacular facial hair and leathers and green hair and myriad piercings, and there are bikes EVERYWHERE. On the Saturday night, in a farmer's field on the edge of the village, there's a massive bonfire, food, a beer tent and some pretty serious rock music. They are a great lot, and absolutely love coming to us. It's the time when you realise what village life is really all about.

Falling leaves and autumn colours.......the heat of summer is over now thank goodness, autumn is with us and colours are glorious. Some see autumn as a dead time, I see it as a time of rest from the frantic sunshine of summer.

Autumn is my favourite season - perhaps because I was born in autumn?

I was in a very chinzy teashop.   Two of the other customers were hairy, tattoo'd bikers. Outside were two beautiful, shiny, obviously well-loved Harley Davidsons. None of the other customers showed any sign of prejudice towards the bikers.

Doesn't it though! Bikers, Druids, Folkies, Grungies - all lovely easy going people in my experience. Maybe it's a shared love of outdoorsy community based fun? Back in the day, bikers might have been more of a handful, but these days they're just a bunch of cuddly teddy bears who like a decent beer and a bit of a boogie. And who amongst us doesn't?

A man on a cane with 6 items appraoched me at a distance at the express 15 item limit line. I waved him ahead of me since my 4 items were 4 huge 18 packs of toilet paper. I hate to buy TP so I do it once a year. He looked like Bill Nye the science guy. When he reached for his wallet he said, "Oh no I forgot my wallet", and he started to cpick his items up.

I said never mind "I'll pay for them".
"I don't even have a store card"
I have it. I entered all sorts of numbers and IDs and finished paying.
He said he was an artist and would like to pay in return with his art.
I took his card and resumed a chat outside over my cart piled high with toilet paper about art and innovations. He showed me photos of art on his camera. His was quite good as opposed to his friend's art that was without care or interest. There were mandalas of beauty and faces of elegant sea gulls and symetry that revealed truth and balance. I took my leave and promised I would e mail.

I drove away in my peacmobile... I put a chrome Peace symbol in the grill where the real emblem had been.

We have a pair of Mallard ducks that feed on our lawn. She is after the corn I put out and he is after her hoping she will put out.
It's a delight to see them side by side lying down and eating together.

Yes, it's a bike club. They might have been rather Pagany once, but they don't seem particularly so now. Several of them live in our village, which is why we have the rally. They're really nice people.
