Hello Stu,

It's 'Fubu's Mazurka' by Thierry Mirebeau and is in one of the Blowzabella books :)

Mal & Jo knew which tune it was without having to pause to think, they've got brains like computers, and they've given me the dots :D

Thanks Stu,
I keep remembering the 'wrong' tune so next time Mal & Jo walk past the window I'll ask if they know the Gm mazurka, it'll be even better if they've got the dots & chords

Lo' Ann n
The Donegal Mazurka has a variety of names but it is a polish folk dance which has been adopted/adapted as a Celtic type piece of music.
Music for that is boringly simple D _ G _ A _ D for both parts, with a strong accent on 2nd beat. It's the twiddly bits between the notes that prove a buttock pain!

Sonny's Mazurka is similar D_ G_ A_D this is followed by what I call the 'descant'. Gm - C#m - Gm - C#m - Gm - ? The last note I am not sure about. This is then followed by a 'link' G-C-D-G which takes us back to Sonny's.
I've searched the net and can find no example of this 'descant and link' so it must be in my heid. I do not know if it is yet another type of mazurka adapted to fit with Sonny's. Heard played by a couple who liked Celtic style music in the mid- 90's down at the Tap. If my memory serves me his name is Malcolm they live round the corner from you. They might just now the name.

Hope this is helpful, if not there's always suicide!

It's your Birthday as well as Liam's Mick so I will do my best to get over to Whitby. Be nice to see Stu and the rest of the gang. It's a shame the repair to Mandomad's are on Whitby Time.

But not just yet. The disastrous flood repairs still ongoing,

Dear World,
Thought it time to let folks know what's a goin' on. As you all know by now the new Landylady of the FILO ect are 'Palestines' preferring an empty pub than live folk music. It has taken seven years to get what we got and we aint goin down quietly!

The good news is that a wee phoenix has arized from the ashes, so to speak. We have officailly amalgamated (a packet o' nuts and a swallie) with the Whitby Folk Club in the Concert Room at the Whitby Friendship Rowing Club each and every Thrusday evening. Acoustics are good, plenty room ta' swing a set o' pipes, no punters, hard of hearing and hard of thinking, at the bar exercising their gray-cell and their god-given right to drown out what ever music, song, etc is being conducted. Talking about the Bar, the prices in the Friendship are a lot cheaper and £1 a year secures social membership. So far attendences have been very good averging between 10-20 singers and muscicians every week.

Angie Haywood facilitates a musicians workshop from 8-9pm. At 9.00pm the Folk Club starts. Mick and I have been taking turns MCing and so far no blood has been spilt.

Regrettably, there is no longer a 'First Saturday' but Whitby Folk Club will feature strongly during Whitby Folk Week.
Hope to see you there, sooner than later.

Keep it it live, keep real, keep it well for Folk appeal

Folk for pleasure(!)
