Subject: RE: Origins: The Zucchini Song From: GUEST,Jim Dixon at the UST library Date: 06 May 11 - 06:45 PM I don't know if we ever tracked it down to its absolute origin, but there are a bunch of related songs. See: Lyr Req: The Marrow Song. Also see the "Related threads" listed at the top of that page. |

Subject: RE: Origins: The Zucchini Song From: GUEST Date: 06 May 11 - 06:38 PM Yes but... Tim Curry might have changed "courgette" or "marrow" to "zucchini" because he was performing for an American audience. |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Zucchini Song From: GUEST Date: 04 May 11 - 08:13 PM I found a post from back in 2002 that said it was recorded on "Vintage Cider" by The Wurzels, attributed to Siebert (1952). Hoping to figure out who owns the rights... here's a recording of Tim Curry singing (?) it on Saturday Night Live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GEYTHPGCsg |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Zucchini Song From: CupOfTea Date: 28 Apr 11 - 01:28 PM Darn. I thought this thread was going to be about Mary Lu Walker's wonderful Zucchini song on her Middle Aged Middle Class Mama Songs album that had been a frequent part of WCLV's Saturday Night program. I was hoping someone was out there singing it still - and it looks as if Mary Lu herself is doing it. There's a link to an audio clip of the Zucchini song on her website. Joanne in Cleveland, who never grew zucchini because she'd been warned they'd take over |

Subject: Origins: The Zucchini Song From: GUEST,ptpgrad Date: 27 Apr 11 - 06:11 PM I am trying to identify the origins of The Zucchini Song, also known as "The Pickle Song". Most famously, it was sung by Tim Curry on Saturday Night Live. The chorus is: Oh, what a beauty, I've never seen one a big as that before Oh, what a beauty, it must be two foot long or even more It's such a lovely color, so big and round and fat I've never seen a zucchini grow quite as big a that Oh Oh, What a beauty, I've never seen one as big as that before. I am trying to find out who wrote it originally and who owns the rights. I was informed it was an old British Pub Hall song, but can't find it. Can anyone help direct me? Thanks in advance! |
