I came a across this fiddle tune for guitar a number of years ago in a flat pick book published by Oak publications. I no longer have the version of this tab tune. Could anybody help. It was in the key of ' A'. It would be much appreciated. If I could get a copy of the tune or the book. Cheers Rob

You could check the Martin Simpson web site on:

http://www.watershed-arts.com/msimpson.html

It's long been in his repetoire [#1], and the tabs of a number of his recordings are published . . .

#1] Known by some as "The Scarlet Zit", but that's another story!

Phillip Mann has a banjo tab for it on his web site. Henrik Norbeck has ABC notation (melody only) of it on his web site. TablEdit is a shareware program that can convert ABC to guitar or other tablature. Hope this helps.

"Red Haired Boy" is one of the dozen or so tunes on the Mel Bay Fiddle Tunes Jam Trax, which should be available in your local folk music store. The book also has a CD with slow and fast versions of all the dozen or so songs, the fast version having a fiddle playing the lead first time through, then just a rhythm section playing the accompaniment music-minus-one style. Other tunes include "Temperance Reel," "Blackberry Blossom," "Wayfaring Stranger," "Arkansas Traveler," "Beaumont Rag," "Black Mountain Rag," Soldier's Joy," "Old Joe Clark," "Salty Dog," "Turkey in the Straw," "Billy in the Low Ground," and one or two others. The book and CD lists for $19.95, and should be available on line, also.

Oh, one other good place: Tony Rice's Flatpicking Guitar book/CD starts with it, a more bluesy version than that on the Jam Trax one (but both are well worth having).--seed
