Subject: RE: Bob Harter info wanted From: GUEST,Thomas Goldsmith Date: 15 Nov 13 - 04:01 PM Robert Harter is listed among background singers on Buddy Holly's wonderful recording of "Rave On," recorded in January 1958 in NYC. It's interesting to learn more about him. This was the only session Holly did with background singing that was released under his name. Usually, such songs were released as the Crickets. The distinction between Holly and the group has been lost in time, but was important then. |
Subject: RE: Bob Harter info wanted From: GUEST,Kathy Harter Date: 21 Feb 12 - 12:02 AM What songs did you sing? My dad sang with Ed Cole with the Toppers, I believe. And I do think this would be the same man. Do you remember the Arthur Godfrey Show? |
Subject: RE: Bob Harter info wanted From: GUEST,Chuck Pettis, Roswell, GA Date: 23 Jan 12 - 11:12 AM In the late 1960s and early 70s I sang with Ed Cole in a Barbershop Chorus in Plainfield, NJ. Also sang with him in a quarter...don't remember the name. |
Subject: RE: Bob Harter info wanted From: GUEST,Kathy Harter Date: 15 Nov 11 - 11:31 PM Bob Harter (Robert Lyle Harter) was my father. He married once, to Theodate Carus. He was born in Lewiston, Idaho, 1922 and died in NYC, March 16, 1970. I was 15 when he died, and I loved his singing. Unfortunately, our family dispersed soon after his death, and only now have I the time to research what he did. He did voices for The Daydreamer (appearing on screen as the Evil Woodsman) and Gulliver's Travels Beyond the Moon (an early Japanese Anime, ca. 1967). I believe he was in studio sessions with Buddy Holly about 1959. Your info here is fantastic. Please feel free to ask any questions. |
Subject: RE: Bob Harter info wanted From: oldhippie Date: 17 May 11 - 02:47 PM The notes on the "Songbag" LP indicate Bob played sax while at Juilliard; sang bass with the Chattaqua Opera Company; the NBC Gilbert & Sullivan Company; The Toppers (a male quartet feature on the Arthur Godfrey show), and with the Belafonte singers. Also sang on numerous film soundtracks and cigarette beer & toothpaste jingles. |
Subject: RE: Bob Harter info wanted From: Thomas Stern Date: 12 May 11 - 10:09 AM Thanks Guest 999. Checking Billboard yields the Bob Harter recordings listed below - are these the same Bob Harter? - Seems he would be a bit older given the date of the first listing. BTW Sterling is the label which first recorded Hank Williams. Another communication indicates that Bob Harter is deceased, but no details were provided. Hope someone out there can provide information, or leads....Thanks! Best wishes, Thomas. Subject: RE: Bob Harter info wanted From: Thomas Stern Date: 07 May 11 - 05:42 PM Hello Guest 999, I like to put a "Human face" to the discographies/resource documents I compile. In documenting the folk revival, many of the not well known players can add much information and insights into the phenomenon. If Bob Harter is still with us, I think it would be nice to know what he has done, other than the handful of recordings listed, and is doing currently. I would add to my query - is this the same Bob Harter who did backup vocals on some late 1950's ATLANTIC sessions? and the ROBERT HARTER who did voices for some 1960's animation??? Any information is appreciated. Thanks, Thomas. |
