Subject: GaelicHarpCon at Boston MFA From: GUEST,Charlie Heymann Date: 07 May 11 - 03:46 AM I'm just a regular lurker who hopes a few 'Catters here might be interested in the following... On June 11-12 the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston will host a symposium on the Gaelic harp tradition of Ireland and Scotland featuring workshops on a variety of Gaelic harp-related topics and concerts centered around the bardic tradition and the unveiling of a playable replica of the Museum's Bunworth harp made by harpmaker David Kortier of Duluth, MN. Featured symposium artists are Ann & Charlie Heymann at the Saturday night "Bardic Tradition" and Sunday afternoon "Bunworth" concerts and Cynthia Cathcart at a Saturday afternoon concert. The concerts will present early Celtic harp music from Ireland, Scotland and Wales using metal-strung and horsehair-strung harps and songs in Latin, early Welsh and early to modern Gaelic. The concert artists will also present workshops, along with presenters harpmaker David Kortier, Museum Curator Darcy Kuronen, Karen Loomis from the University of Edinburgh, Gaelic singer Kate Chadbourne, and Symposium organizer Nancy Hurrell. I love harp music, too, and this event sounds wonderful. My guess and hope is that it will be attended. My iPhone ringtone sounds like a harp chord is being strummed. This post should refresh yours, bringing it to the top so more people can read it. |
