According to records, Michael Chapman said that Nick Drake performed at the Haworth Arms Folk Club in Cottingham/Beverley Road area of Hull back in late 1969. My question is what was the name of the folk club/who ran it/etc, anybody remember this gig ? I suspect and according to Chapman himself, Drake's performance was not really well recieved by the audience. It probably went un-noticed anyway. Did he really perform at the Haworth Arms though ?

Hell, Bones, that's 42 years ago! I was helping run a club at the Haworth around about that time, but I'm buggered if I can remember who else was involved. I actually lived next door above the Haworth Garage which is now part of the Haworth itself.
I'd have just finished my first year at Kingston College just down the road and it's possible that the club was being run by we college students. Whoever, it didn't run for long. I can remember seeing Mike Chapman there at some point but I don't remember Nick Drake. I was a total out and out purist so I wouldn't have been at that gig anyway. The other students weren't anything like as bigotted as me so it's quite likely they were booking much more broad-based guests. I was by then a regular at the Watersons club at the Bluebell so I'd have been a floor singer at the Haworth and helping with booking more trad guests. Folkie Dave, Geoff Lawes were both around then so they might remember. It's quite possible that whoever was running it is now running a club in the great beyond.

Norma waterson was friendly with Joe Boyd who produced Nick Drake's albums, so perhaps the gig was the result of a recommendation.
Or perhaps Michael Chapman took Nick with him to the gig and he did a floor spot ....

No , I was not there Steve. Flick used to run The Round at the University in those days so that is where we went.
