Hi Balladeer... If you want to get information on any previous threads, for example, the previous one on Sing Out reprints, put 'sing out' in the filter box on the top of the list of threads, then use the little arrow in the box that says 'age' and select 180, or 90, depending on how far back you want to go in the database. Then select 'Refresh' and you will get all the threads containing your filter in the title. Try it, you'll like it.

Won't see you at song circle this week, we're heading out of town.

Okay, so I take it I was successful in killing the Sing Out thread I began as I don't see it anywhere. Is it dead or just hiding? In any case, this thread seems to have all relevant information.

To Joe Offer, Shimbo Darktree, all concerned parties: I am very new to this technology, know nothing of chat-room protocol, less than nothing about the inner workings of the Mudcat Cafe. I have been offended by no one, helped by most. Once I got the definitive answer to my question, namely that Reprints One will be reprinted, I figured I should kill the thread as it was taking up possibly valuable space, space someone else might need. (I was born during WWII, tend to worry about things being economical.) As weeks went by with no postings, I thought the topic had run its course. So that's not how this works?

Hi, John - Sing Out! is now published quarterly. I get the impression that they're not rolling in cash, but they're surviving.
The Collected Reprints books are labeled "Volumes 1-6, 1959-64" (the pink book) and "Volumes 7-12, 1964-73" (the blue book). From what I read in the introductions to the books, the years at the publication dates of the Reprints booklets, but that the songs came from the entire history of the magazine, beginning in 1950. I do not know if there were attitional Reprints booklets after Volume 12. Can anybody enlighten us on that? I also have a 1961 Oak Publications booklet called Reprints from the People's Songs Bulletin, 1946-1949. This book was edited by Irwin Silber, and is in basically the same format as the Sing Out! reprints. The "Bulletin was the predecessor of Sing Out!
Do you feel enlightened now, John? Is this a good thing?

So can anybody tell John and me if there were Reprints booklets after Volume 12 that we should be lusting after?

Please help me figure this out.

From approximately 1950 a periodical called Sing Out has been published about four times per year, and is still going strong. I can subscribe to it if I wish, and Midis to all the tunes in each of the most recent issues (6 or so) are available at the Sing Out site. Am I right so far? There is also an index at this site listing the many thousands of songs published since 1950. (I have changed this into an Excel spreadsheet which I find much more friendly for sorting and searching. If anyone would like it let me know).

Then the folks at Sing Out decided to produce Reprints from Sing Out, of which I own 10 or so. How many have been published? What was the publication date of the latest in the series? By my calculations that means that maybe 300 - 500 songs have appeared in this format?

Then along came Volume 1 and 2 of the Collective Reprinrs. Are these two volumes merely a compilation of the reprints, or is there material in them which never appeared in the Reprints? This part confuses the hell out of me. In short, if I ever manage to get the complete collections of Reprints, does this cover the contents of Volumes 1 and 2?

Oh, now I understand. yeah, Shimbo, it would have been better to post to the original thread. That way, all the information would have been together and it would be easier for everyone to refer to. It's almost always better to post to an old thread on a subject, rather than starting a new one. I could combine the two threads, but it's too much like work....
I don't think it's essentioal to combine them in this case.

by starting a new thread. The intent was to notify all
interested parties about Sing Out! reprints, and it seemed
the best way to do that was to start a new thread, thereby

Why would you think there's a need to kill it, Balladeer?Maybe somebody else will need the information. It will drop off the Forum Menu in a day, but it will be available if somebody's searching for it. That's the nature of an open forum - what's posted, should be posted for the benefit of all.

The Blue Book of Collected Reprints from Sing Out! (volumes 7-12, 1964-73) is available. The Pink Book (volumes 1-6, 1959-64), has been out of print for the last couple of years, but it sounds like it's going to be available again soon.

Good news for the lovers of Sing Out! original reprints.
I received the following email recently:

Look for the reissue of _CR v.1-6_ somewhere around the beginning of next year. We've found an "on-demand" printer that'll make it possible to put the books back in print, albeit at a slightly higher price. (We haven't actually set the new price yet, as all the manufacturing numbers aren't in yet, but if you e me in a couple of months, I'll be able to give you all the details and you can order away.)
