I just heard a song about a girl embarassed by watching her parents waltzing on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. It is a sweet waltz, and I'd appreciate any information about the song and who might have recorded it.

I just googled it and couldn't find anything on it. Can you remember anything of the lyrics?

Subject: Lyr Add: WALTZING ON THE BOARDWALK IN ASBURY PARK
From: GUEST,Bernie

Learnt from the singing of Lois Lyman, in Maine, years ago.
Can't swear to accuracy, but it's pretty close. Lois knows great songs, and writes them, too.

WALTZING ON THE BOARDWALK IN ASBURY PARK

My parents waltzed on the boardwalk,
In Asbury Park late one spring
While my sisters and I watched, embarrassed,
Amazed they would do such a thing.

And they waltzed around on the boardwalk,
As the sunlight set on the sea,
They waltzed to the tune of the merry-go-round
In front of my sisters and me.

Sometimes my parents would quarrel.
They would argue and throw things and curse,
But they never stopped loving each other,
So, I guess things could have been worse.

Someday I hope to get married
To someone with some virtues, some faults.
Sometimes we'll laugh; sometimes we'll cry,
But when we're on a boardwalk, we'll waltz.

Like they waltzed around [etc.]

The song was written by Kim Wallach, who mostly writes and performs children's songs, sometimes on You Tube. Its called "Boardwalk Waltz. I have a version by Becky Blackley on her "Gathering the Harvest" album which I found at Elderly Instruments in Ann Arbor MI many years ago. At that time it also was available at San Bruno Records PO Box 504 Brisbane CA, 415 467 1700.

I posted the last reply. To add to it, another song someone who likes Boardwalk Waltz almost certainly would like is "Time Waltzes by Sue Ribaudo, who once was with the group "Hot Soup" Their version is in the album of the same name, with Sue Ribaudo on lead vocal. Here it is from Youtube:

Another great family oriented waltz is Dale Marxer's Waltzing with Bears. Here is an exerpt from Priscilla Herdman:

My favorite version is by Bok, Muir and Tricket, their "The First Fifteen Years, Volume II" album, from Timberhead Music, in front of a live crowd in a Minneapolis folk club. Ann Mayo Muir takes lead vocal.
