From: GUEST,PAUL VAUGHAN
Date: 11 May 11 - 10:25 AM

Hello everyone! I've never posted on mudcat before but i just wanted to let you know of a new acoustic session in Newhaven. It's an "in the bar" session at a pub called The Ark which is on West Quay and the post code is BN9 9BP. Although not strictly a folk session all styles are welcome so, if you're in the area, come along and give us a song or two,we'll be very glad to see you!. Many thanks, Paul.

Good luck with it, Paul. I see The Ark has Harveys Best Bitter, which is a major attraction.

Just a reminder for the acoustic session at the Ark on wednesday night. I play guitar mainly but also do a bit of frailing banjo, we also have a regular guy, Duncan, who plays dobro, tenor guitar and ukelele and sings the blues like his life depended on it!
So if you play or sing anything come along and join in and help us make it a great night, Many thanks SEEYA!

Well, I might just try and get along this Wednesday - only half an hour from me in West Sussex. Could even bring the tenor guitar - though they do say that two tenor guitars may well signal the End of the World...

Not a bad session last night. Not many turned up but it did give me a chance to play some blues with my new mate Duncan Campbell.
By the way, Duncan has his own show on our local radio station seahavenfm. He plays a mix of jazz and blues classics every thursday at 9pm. If your in the Seaford/Newhaven area you can find it on 96.3FM or if not you can listen online at seahavenfm.com. Thanks!

Another good session last night at the Ark. Thank you Sian for coming all the way over from Hastings!! You guys really made an impression, everyone was talking about you after you'd left so I hope you can make it over again sometime. I hope you enjoyed yourselves too and it didn't get too rowdy for you! Seeya soon :-)

We had a great time Paul. Everyone was really friendly and we loved the atmosphere. We were not expecting mics & PA, being used to 'unplugged' sessions. but it didn't put us off. Thanks for letting us know about it. We will definitely come again!

Hello again Sian, Iknow what you mean about the mics! I did intend it to be a purely acoustic session but it became apparent the first night that some people just wouldn't be heard so relented and used that small combo amp. I hope it doesn't put other people off though!
I'm hoping to get over to Hastings for your next session so look forward to seeing you there. Seeya!!

Another reminder that it's acoustic night at the Ark on wednesday! I also feel I should warn people that I am not working on thursday and will therefore be drinking at this weeks session. Those of a nervous disposition should take note that Mrs Vaughan will be attending, so things shouldn't get too scary :-)ha ha!!
Those of a generous nature please take note that mine's a Harveys, (wishful thinking).
If you would like to come along, but don't know where the hell it is, here's a link   The Ark

Thanks again, seeya!

Hi Will, I kick off 8:30 sharp, then people can jump in whenever they like. Things are still a bit random as no two nights have been the same yet but that's certainly no bad thing as far as I'm concerned!! Hope to seeya soon, thanks!

A terrific night at the Ark last night. Plenty of regulars coming along now and a few new faces too. One lady in particular, Stella, treated us to some beautiful folk songs and then nailed me to the floor with the best version of Merle Haggard's "Thats the way love goes" I've ever heard!!!
By the way, can anybody explain why drinking umpteen pints of Harveys seems like such a big and clever thing to do at the time. Hmmm......

Just another blatant plug for the acoustic session at The Ark Newhaven on wednesday. It's getting busier by the week now but we still need more folk singers/players, so come on guys stand up for Folk!! :-)

Hi all!,
Just a reminder to let you know that we're still here.
The pub is under new management now and has been given a new lease of life, with the new people having a great attitude to music!
This is now an open mic night but as of next week (30th Nov) I will be starting at 7:30pm so will be a good opportunity for any 'early birds' to get a few numbers in!

Here's a map

Actually... West Quay, Newhaven, East Sussex BN9 9BP

Your map shows a location in Bella Vista, Arizona... probably warmer and drier than Newhaven. :-)

Hello again!!
Just another remninder to let you all know we are still going.
We are an "Open Mic" night now since I became the proud owner of a Yamaha Stagepas 300 PA system!
The set up is basically this:-
I get there at 7:30 for an 8o'clock start,(food is available till 9pm)
There are 3 mics available plus a condenser mic for any instruments without a pickup.
There is also a Marshall AS50 acoustic amp for guitars (plus at least 2 more acoustic amps are usually around)
So, come along and say hello, you will be made very welcome!
As one of our regulars said on facebook recently
"Good venue...good music....good people....what's not to like?"

Many thanks,

Paul.
