Those in Liverpool or its environs may be interested to know of the monthly singaround taking place tonight (i.e. Thursday 12th May)

Every month, on the second Thursday, there's a folk singaround at the Lion Tavern, Moorfields, Liverpool. That means that tonight is the May singaround. It's organised by Nev Grundy, who does a great job, and I've always found it to be good fun, so I think it deserves a bit of extra publicity. It's a good informal singing session, and it's in a wonderful pub with a fantastic range of real ales.

Nev's posted his reminder about the singaround on his blog - those who are looking for The Lion will find it more or less over the road from Moorfields station, at the corner of Moorfields and Tithebarn Street - here's a google map of the location (I hope!)

(I say "taking place tonight" - because it's already Thursday here in the UK - although of course the message is stamped as 11th May because the board uses an American timezone... Oh well, hopefully it's pretty clear what I mean by 'tonight'!)

Can't make it tonight, but all the best to everyone who does.

Well, it's time for the June singaround - Thursday 9 June, Lion Tavern, Moorfields, 8.30pm or so onwards. There were 9 singers taking part last month, none of us smashed the place up, the pints were up to the high standards that we expect from the Lion's well stocked and well kept bar, and Nev did a fine job of making sure that the music kept going round in something approximating a circle.

"none of us smashed the place up"? That's only because I wasn't there. Rectification of that particular oversight will be attended to tonight.

Finally have a chance to get to this again tomorrow. One of my favourite singarounds!

So yep, singaround at the Lion, Thursday 12 January. The Lion Tavern is near Moorfields Station in Liverpool, on the corner of Moorfields and Tithebarn Street. A beautiful pub with fine ales, and a nice setting for a friendly and informal singaround. The pub usually provides us with a plate of sandwiches to keep us going, which is the sign of a good establishment.
It's organised by Nev Grundy of the Bothy Folk Club, and more information can be found on his blog.

If you can't make it this month, the Lion singaround takes place on the 2nd Thursday of every month.

Back in Liverpool tomorrow, looking forward to getting back to the Lion for this.

For those of you are are unfamiliar with this fine 2nd Thursday of the month singaround, details are as outlined above!

Damn! Sorry to miss you Richard, but I'm away in Kendal this week. Have a good sing anyway!

Matthew

This oft-lively singaround is back again tonight. I'm reliably informed that the Lion tavern sells beer, and it's within crawling distance of Moorfields railway station, what's not to like?

Hope to be there but ears bunged full of earwax. Can't hear a fucking thing. I'll just have to lipread.

BTW., the Lion, a big old fashioned Victorian drinkinghouse, sells a truly excellent range of cask beers and it's right opposite Moorfields Station. I'll say nothing about the sex shop a couple of doors up. But it's a disgrace I tell you. An absolute bleep bleeping disgrace.
