Subject: BS: Pickers near Sharon Springs NY??? From: George Schroder Date: 17 May 11 - 11:12 AM Hi, I'm George Schroder, an old folkie from California. I've moved to Sharon Springs, NY and I sure would like to find some pickers around here to play with. You can hear my stuff on Reverbnation. If you're familiar with California folk music, I hung out with Kate Wolf, Jelly Roll Gil Turner, etc, wrote the red Tail hawk, etc. I'm a non-drinker, allergic to tobacco smoke, like a little herb once in awhile, like to garden and cook, spent a lot of time in Russia, retired construction manager. Doing a sustainable living experiment on a beautiful 350 acre farm in Sharon Springs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pickers near Sharon Springs NY??? From: Hollowfox Date: 17 May 11 - 04:35 PM I don't know anybody right next door or anything, but it would be worth your while to come to the Old Songs festival in Altamont (near Albany/Schenectady) next month. |

Sounds idyllic, though, I am sure rugged, at times. The rest of your background in intriguing. Welcome to the Mudcat! kat in Colorado |
Subject: RE: BS: Pickers near Sharon Springs NY??? From: pdq Date: 17 May 11 - 04:55 PM Off-topic, I'm sure, but were you ever a fan of KFAT radio in Gilroy? I first heard Kate Wolf, Jill Crosston, Mary McCaslin and Emmylou Harris on that station. In a given hour you might hear Seldom Scene, Louis Armstrong, Utah Phillips and the Grateful Dead! I have hopes of making a CD with a few dozen songs that are certified as played on KFAT. If you can add to the list, it would be appreciated. |

Subject: RE: Pickers near Sharon Springs NY??? From: Anglo Date: 18 May 11 - 03:30 AM I'll echo the Old Songs Festival. It's only about 35 miles away. Last weekend in June. Check it out at www.oldsongs.org. If you're a "real" old California folkie, you'll know Larry Hanks, and he'll be at the festival this year on a rare east coast trip, with his wife Deborah Robins. Come say hello to a whole gang of friendly folkies, a lot of whom camp out and play all weekend. |

Subject: RE: Pickers near Sharon Springs NY??? From: GUEST,Vicki Kelsey Date: 21 May 11 - 11:21 PM Hello George. As Anglo and Hollowfox said, Old Songs is a good bet, and could probably help you make other connections. Om Memorial Day weekend, there's also the GottaGetGon festival, put on by the Pick'n' and Sing'n' Gather'n'. There are paid performers during the day,, and jamming day and night. Subject: RE: Pickers near Sharon Springs NY??? From: EBarnacle Date: 22 May 11 - 05:31 PM The people who put on the festival are generally local to it. It would be worth your while, just from that view, to come and meet them. If you purchase the "creature comforts" package, you can also dine [pretty well] with them and chat in their "off time." |
Subject: RE: Pickers near Sharon Springs NY???
