Very fond memories of their visit to the Thurso Folk Festival in the early 1970's -- great energy and professionalism and a lot of smiles in the audience. And then Vera hit us with a very stripped-down version of 'The Testimony of Patience Kershaw' (mimimal accordion accompaniment) and there was that very rare moment of stunned silence at the end, followed by a collective gasp and then astonished applause.

Wish it weren't so far away from Glasgow!

Yes, EKanne, it's a pity you can't join us.

But I'm sure you'll have a great evening!
How I wish some of the younger generation of performers would appreciate the virtue of a well-constructed programme, as per Gary and Vera, with a goodly mix of mood and mode, rhythm and pace -- but maybe that awareness only comes with age?

Two currently under-rated but EXCELLENT performers - seminal influences, too, on many of us in the 70s.
They have great voices, super arrangements and cracking songs - all of which tell interesting stories. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended.
Youth! LISTEN!!!!

I've been going to folk clubs for over 40 years and the best night ever was at The Topic in Bradford when it was at The Star Westgate, with Gary and Vera as guests.

I think, (happy to be shot down) they were the last guests we ever booked at The Boundary Folk Club in Worksop. Off the top of my head, that would be 1983ish..

I recall a full house, a brilliant night and scratching collective heads when only a few weeks later we called it a day. I hear the room is living quarters for a Chinese restaurant now.

We had them at Lymm a few weeks back! I've known them for over forty years... and they just keep getting better!!

They'll no doubt sing their 'Banker's Code' (Where's the money gone?) dedicated to those stalwarts of the financial world who ripped everyone off!!

Bernard - your comment was that "they just keep getting better". No-one who was at Old Oak Live tonight would disagree with you.
Great music, great singing and lots and lots of laughter.
Wonderful
