I have it but I have no way of sending it to an un-named guest. If you join Mudcat ( no cost) we could use the PM (personal message feature) to communicate.

I have the song on youtube. Just type in drinking black rum and eating blueberry pie. Also, Jim Bennet is the songwriter.

A local nova scotian named Gordon Tucker sings it.    He plays the "Old Triangle" in Halifax regularly or Finbar's in Bedford.   He's a great musician.

Jim Bennet is the proper spelling (with only one "t" at the end of his name)

Hi folks, This is Eric LeBlanc and we sing that song often at Grasse Circle Jams. First person I heard sing the song was Dennis Legere of the group Mackinaw. I was unaware that Jim Bennet wrote the tune. I have never heard a recording of the song but will forward to Dennis and ask where he got the tune. You should be flooded with Blueberry Pie recipes. A real treat.

Black Diamond would have been the rum of choice in NS when the song was written.

Start with Gosling's Black Seal. Get some dark molasses. Leave the molasses in the jar and drink the Gosling's.

I have always favored dark rum -- where can I get black?

And what's the tune?

Somewhere I believe I have recording of Anne Murray singing this. Perhaps on an old Singalong Jubilee lp. Jim Bennet wrote some great stuff! Thick Of Fog was another.

You'll hear it at Citadel High in Halifax, NS, on 18th November, 2010, in a "Back To Bennet" revue by the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Nova Scotia.   It's the show's Finale......learn the words and join in!

I didn't know if this song has ever been recorded. I heard it once in the late '60's or early '70's once on Singalong Jubilee, a musical variety show pruduced by the CBC in Halifax. A friend of mine got the words for me.

Here ya go: Bob

BLACK RUM AND BLUEBERRY PIE
Jim Bennet

We're livin' in the age of space as everybody knows.
Most everyone is in the race as this here country grows.
But down among the lobster pots you'll find a funny crew.
Us Maritimers don't do things like other people do.
We just like ...

Chorus:
Fishin', fightin', gettin' tight 'n starin' at the sky.
Chewin', spittin' and just sittin', watchin' time go by.
Climbin' rocks 'n drivin' oxen, learnin' how to lie,
Drinkin' black rum 'n eatin' blueberry pie.

I guess they worry 'bout us in them cities up the line.
They never will believe us when we say we're doin' fine.
They tell us we'd be better off if their rules were applied,
But why should they complain about the things they've never tried?
Them things like ...

Chorus:

Now, once upon a time some economic fellers came.
Development of human-type resources was their game.
They asked a big computer what us folks were fit to do.
It typed a big long list of things that we're best suited to.
That list read ...

Chorus:

Thanks for responding...

The theme of the song surrounds the capacity of maritimers. We are not sure of the era.

The first verse is something like: "..... Out amongst the lobster traps there lives a funny crew They dont' do any of the things like other people do... (CH) "Things like fishing, fighting, gettin' tight and staring at the sky.... ... Drinking black rum and eating blueberry pie"

Hi, Katherine, welcome to the Mudcat. Can you give us anymore information, such as what era it might be from? Is there a certain group you know of who sang it? Where did you hear it?

Someone on here is bound to know or find it, so just keep checking back and let us know if you have any other info.

I'm trying to find the lyrics for a song titled (I think) "Blueberry pie". Does anyone know where I might be able to find it?

The main chorus goes something like this:

"Drinking black rum and eating blueberry pie..."
